Today, we honor Saint Ezekiel Moreno, an Augustinian Recollect friar, priest, and bishop who dedicated his life to serving the Church in the Philippines and Colombia.
Born in Alfaro, Spain, in 1848, he was ordained a priest in the Philippines in 1871 and spent 15 years in missionary ministry. He later served in Colombia, where he became Bishop of Pasto in 1899.
Despite civil unrest, persecution of the Church, and his battle with cancer, St. Ezekiel remained a faithful and courageous shepherd, devoted to the people entrusted to his care.
He died on August 19, 1906, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1992.
