Firm Conviction
Sometimes in our lives, we easily get angry when we don't get what we want. We easily give up to the things or problems we cannot resolve. We get disappointed when our request is not granted. But this didn’t happen to the woman in the gospel. Here we see an image of a woman with firm conviction in her prayer that God will answer her even if she was indifferent in the eyes of others. She humbled herself as she pleaded to Jesus, saying “Please Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters”. With her strong faith, Jesus granted her prayer to heal her child.
As a child raised in a poor and not so perfect family, I encountered many challenges. I struggled much in our family before we get everything that we have today. I grew up full of “whys” in my mind. Why I don’t have that? Why we didn’t have that at home? Why can’t we buy things that we want? Why do we need to undergo this kind of pain? Why do I need to do this/that? I have full of worries in life and thought that I am an unfortunate child not unless I established my intimate relationship with God through the community of CFC-Singles for Christ. The faith I have for Him made me realized that the day we lost our youngest sister was not cursed to our family but a test for our love and faithfulness to Him. The years that I needed to quit from schooling to give way to my eldest sister was not to hurt me but to test my trust to Him. Those moments that I needed to suffer from disappointments because of my supposed to be transfer from island station to mainland station was not granted even though I was already informed that I will be home on that year, was not a punishment but His way in preparing me for His best plans.
With these, I came to realize that God’s plan is much better than ours. He knows what is right for us and when will be our time to shine. His heart is much bigger than ours, He sees well where we see none.
In this time of new normal brought by the pandemic, let us put our trust and faith to Jesus that He is preparing the best new normal for all of us. Let us continue to pray, stand complete and have firm conviction in all His will. For prayer will not change God but He will change the heart of the one who prays.
