- Born in Brooklyn, New York, he entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1915. He first arrived in the Philippines in 1922 as a young seminarian to teach at the Ateneo de Manila.

- Appointed as Chaplain of Manila Council 1000 in 1938, he eventually became the first Philippine Deputy of the Order in 1962. He grew the organization from a small local council into a massive, nationwide network of charity and fraternal leadership.
