𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗘 𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛

How do we know if our wisdom is true or foolish?

James 3:13 teaches that true wisdom is not simply shown by what we know or say, but by how we live. Wisdom is practical skill and moral discernment—knowing what is right and choosing what honors God. It is shown through good conduct and the meekness of wisdom, strength that is under control and directed toward what is right.

I. TRUE WISDOM IS SHOWN - NOT JUST SPOKEN

True wisdom is visible in our actions. As Proverbs 9:10 reminds us, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The question is not only, “Do I know what is wise?” but, “If people judged my wisdom by my actions, would they see the wisdom from above?”

II. FOOLISH WISDOM IS SELF-DRIVEN

James 3:14-16 warns about bitter jealousy and selfish ambition. This kind of wisdom is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic, producing disorder and every vile practice. Like the rich fool in Luke 12, we can become focused on ourselves, our desires, and what we can gain, while forgetting God.

III. TRUE WISDOM COMES FROM ABOVE

James 3:17 describes wisdom from above as pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and sincere. True wisdom is ultimately a spiritual issue. Ang tunay na karunungan ay hindi paramihan ng nalalaman kundi pagpapakita ng kaibahan.

IV. TRUE WISDOM PRODUCES RIGHTEOUSNESS

James 3:18 reminds us that wisdom is fruitful. What we sow will produce a harvest. If we sow anger, conflict, envy, and selfish ambition, we will see disorder and division. But when we sow peace, mercy, and humility, we produce reconciliation, compassion, and unity and a harvest that honors God.

But where does true wisdom come from?

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6

And ultimately, true wisdom is found in Christ, “the power of God and the wisdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:24

True wisdom is not merely what we know. It is wisdom from above, shown in our lives, producing righteousness, and pointing us to Christ.

𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗬𝗘𝗧 𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘
📖 JAMES 3:1-12

The tongue may be small, but its impact is great. James 3 reminds us that our words carry serious responsibility, especially for those who teach. Those who teach will be judged with greater strictness, and the teacher’s life is the foundation upon which his message stands. Yet James also reminds us, “For we all stumble in many ways.”

James compares the tongue to a bit that guides a horse, a small rudder that directs a large ship, and a small fire that can set an entire forest ablaze. Something small can have a great effect.

THE INTENSITY OF AN UNTAMED TONGUE

James 3:6-8 describes the tongue as a fire, a world of unrighteousness, and a restless evil full of deadly poison. Our careless words can spread quickly and cause deep wounds. Proverbs 12:18 reminds us that rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Before we speak, we should ask: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it edifying? If not, sometimes it is better not to say it. As one body, we should also help one another in how we speak.

THE HYPOCRISY OF AN UNTAMED TONGUE

James 3:9-10 shows the contradiction of using the same mouth to bless God and to curse people who are made in His likeness. Lying, teasing, complaining, and careless words can reveal this hypocrisy. We need to remember that the people we speak to are also made in God’s image.

THE REMEDY FOR AN UNTAMED TONGUE

James 3:11-12 reminds us that a spring cannot produce both fresh and salt water. What comes out reveals what is within. Jesus also teaches in Matthew 15:11 that what comes out of the mouth defiles a person.

The problem is not only the tongue but the heart behind it. We need a heart that is continually being transformed by God as we grow in sanctification. It is not enough to simply confess our wrong words; we must submit ourselves to God and ask for His help.

Only a God-transformed heart can tame the tongue.

𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗔 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗚𝗢𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗟
📖 JAMES 3:1-2

James 3:1 reminds us that teaching God’s Word is a serious responsibility. Those who teach will be judged with greater strictness because they are entrusted with the responsibility of teaching others the truth of God.

The standard for those who shepherd and lead God’s people is high. Paul gives us this reminder in 1 Timothy 3:1-7: “The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.”

These qualifications remind us that leading and caring for God’s church is a serious responsibility. The standard is high, yet James 3:2 gives us the honest reality of our weakness: “For we all stumble in many ways.” Teachers and leaders are imperfect. They also stumble, struggle, and need the grace of God.

As Bro. Paul Washer said: “There is no such thing as a great man of God, only weak, pitiful, faithless men of a great and merciful God.”

Because our leaders are also imperfect, the church has a responsibility toward them. We are called to pray for them, especially as they proclaim the Gospel; support them, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching; serve with them, so that the ministry of the Word can continue; gently correct them when they fall, with humility and care; and protect them from accusations that are not properly established.

Yet the calling does not stop with our leaders. Matthew 28:19-20 reminds us that Christ has commanded His people to make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to observe all that He has commanded.

The Word of God is not merely something we teach or hear. It must shape all of us.

“Faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is never alone.”

James 2: 14-26 reminds us that true faith is not only something we say or believe. True faith will show itself in the way we live. Words without action are not enough. If we see someone in need and only say, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without helping them, our words are empty. In the same way, faith without works is dead.

Even the demons believe that God is one, but their belief is not saving faith. True faith does more than simply recognize who God is. It produces a life that responds to Him.

We are saved by grace through faith in Christ, not by our works. But the faith that saves is never alone. It produces good works because God has made us new in Christ.

Abraham and Rahab showed their faith through their actions. Their faith was active and was shown through what they did. James makes it clear: just as the body without the spirit is dead, faith apart from works is dead.

So, let us examine our lives:

Do we say we love God. Do we trust and obey Him?
Do we say we believe. Do we share?
Do we say we love the church. Do we serve and give?
Do we desire church growth. Are we willing to sacrifice for it?
Do we desire personal growth. Do we attend and participate?
Do we want believing children. Do we encourage their participation?
Do we say we want to go to heaven. Have we obeyed the gospel? Are we faithful and fruitful?

When you are saved and you know it, your life will surely show it.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗨𝗠𝗣𝗛 𝗢𝗙 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗖𝗬
📖 JAMES 2:8-13 ESV

James 2:8 reminds us of the Royal Law: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Loving our neighbor is not only a command that we should know, but something that we should live out. Partiality is the opposite of loving others as ourselves. Pastor Jeth illustrated this through a glasswalk or hanging bridge. Just as railings or a harness protect us from danger, God’s law is not meant to be a burden. It is given to guide and protect us in the way we live.

James 2:9-11 also shows us how serious partiality is. Showing favoritism is sin, and those who do it are called transgressors of God’s law. Deuteronomy 1:17 reminds us not to be partial, because judgment belongs to God. James also explains that whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point becomes guilty of all of it. This does not mean that every sin has the same consequence, but it shows that every sin makes us guilty before the same holy God. The Law reveals the heart and character of God, so we should not treat partiality as a small or harmless thing.

James 2:12 calls us to speak and act as people who will be judged under the law of liberty. True freedom is not freedom to continue in sin. It is freedom from the bo***ge of sin, which only the Holy Spirit can give. Because of this, our faith should be seen not only in what we say, but also in how we live and how we treat other people.

James 2:13 reminds us that “Mercy triumphs over judgment.” This does not give us a license to continue in sin. Rather, those whose lives are marked by mercy are those who have truly experienced the saving mercy of God. As Matthew 5:7 says, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” If we have received mercy from God, we should also show mercy to others.

Let us love our neighbor, reject partiality, speak and act according to the law of liberty, and live as people who have received the mercy and grace of God.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗜𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗡𝗢𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗬
📖 James 2:1-7
🗓️ August 30, 2026

Snobbery is an attitude of ignoring people, being unfriendly, looking down on others, or acting superior to them. But being shy, introverted, socially awkward, or having a drained social battery does not automatically make someone a snob. The real issue is the heart behind how we treat others. James 2:1-7 reminds us not to show partiality as followers of Christ.

𝗜𝗧’𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗚𝗢𝗗’𝗦 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘
God is not partial and does not take bribes. He is also kind to the ungrateful and the evil. As His people, we should not show partiality toward others.

𝗜𝗧’𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗦
James shows how partiality can cause us to favor the rich while putting the poor aside. But the Lord does not look at people the way we do. People look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗦 𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦
James says that when we make distinctions among people, we become judges with evil thoughts. This shows that partiality is not only seen in our actions but also in the intentions of our hearts.

𝗜𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗦 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗨𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗗’𝗦 𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗘
James says, “But you have dishonored the poor man.” When we show partiality and dishonor others, we also dishonor the honorable name by which we are called.

The Gospel reminds us of the humility of Christ. Though He was rich, He became poor for our sake. Christ humbled Himself for us, so we have no reason to look down on others or show partiality. Examine our hearts, reject partiality, and reflect the humility of Christ.

𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗚𝗢𝗗
📖 Deuteronomy 6:4-9
🗓️ August 23, 2026

The home is one of the important places where God’s truth is taught and passed on to the next generation. In Deuteronomy 6:4-9, God commands His people to love Him with all their heart, soul, and might, to keep His Word on their hearts, and to diligently teach His commands to their children throughout everyday life.

Judges 2:7-10 gives us a serious reminder of the importance of knowing the Lord and remembering His works. The people served the Lord during the days of Joshua and the elders who had witnessed His great works. But after that generation died, another generation arose that did not know the LORD or the work that He had done for Israel.

The passage does not tell us every specific reason why that generation did not know the Lord. But it clearly shows the tragic reality of one generation knowing and serving the Lord, while the generation that followed did not know Him or His works.

This reminds us that the knowledge of God and His Word must be faithfully taught and remembered from one generation to the next.

The world is discipling our children whether we realize it or not. That is why we need to bring worship and the Word of God into our homes, not only on Sundays, but throughout the week and in the ordinary moments of everyday life.

𝗙𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗬 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣
God calls us to diligently teach His Word to our children and speak of it throughout everyday life, when we sit in our homes, when we walk along the way, when we lie down, and when we rise. Family worship can be a practical way for families to come together for Scripture, prayer, teaching, conversation, questions, godly example, worship, and repetition, keeping God’s Word at the center of family life throughout the week.

𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗
God calls parents to teach and disciple their children, while fathers are specifically instructed to bring their children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Before teaching God’s Word to our children, His Word must first be on our own hearts.

Taking the lead means faithfully teaching and modeling the truth of God in the home.

𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗
2 Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us that all Scripture is God breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. As we build homes that honor God, His Word must be the foundation of what we teach and how we live.

𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬
God commands us to diligently teach His Word to our children and to speak of it throughout our daily lives. Whether we sit, walk, lie down, or rise, let every moment be an opportunity to teach and remind our children of God and His truth.

𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘
God calls us to make His Word part of our everyday home life. As we teach, speak, and live out His truth, our homes can become places where the next generation learns to know and follow the Lord.

𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗
God calls us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and might. As we treasure the Lord, His Word and worship become a priority in our homes, and we faithfully teach the next generation to know and love Him.

A simple family worship time can include:
• Opening Prayer
• Reading a Bible section or chapter
• Highlighting one or two truths and pointing to the Gospel
• Closing Prayer

“What the church teaches on Sunday must be reinforced in the home throughout the week.”

The goal is not simply to pass information about God to the next generation, but to faithfully teach His Word, remember His works, and live under His truth.

Let us build homes where God is treasured, His Word is taught, worship is practiced, and His truth is faithfully passed on to the next generation.

James 1:26-27 ESV
[26] If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. [27] Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

James teaches us that true religion is not merely an outward profession. Genuine faith is demonstrated in the way we speak, the way we love, and the way we pursue purity before God.

𝗜𝗡 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗖𝗛
If the tongue is not controlled, the heart is not transformed. Our words reveal what is within us, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

𝗜𝗡 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘
Pure and undefiled religion before God is seen in caring for those who are in affliction. We are called not only to love in word or talk, but in deed and in truth.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬
True faith is also seen in keeping ourselves unstained from the world. God's Word must guide us in pursuing purity, because if God's Word is not a priority, neither is purity.

Faith that is genuine is seen in our speech, love, and purity.

“It's not perfection that proves our salvation. It's the reaction to our imperfection.”
