St. Mother Theresa. She said, “If I wasn’t able to discover Jesus hidden under the disguise of bread, I wouldn’t be able to find Him in the distressing disguise of the poor.” Let’s pray for this grace - that if we’re able to say “Amen”, “I believe,” to Jesus hidden in the Blessed Sacrament today, may He also give us the grace to see him this week in the person who is waiting for our help. A person whose name we may already know. A person we may have passed by in silence so many times before. A person who is made in the image and likeness of God. A brother, a sister, a neighbor. Another self.

Proverbs 15:27, "He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live."
Catholic Reflection
From a Catholic perspective, this verse reinforces the importance of justice, charity, and living according to God's law, even in the face of tempting opportunities for personal gain.
Social Justice:
The verse calls us to consider the effects of our actions and choices on others, particularly those who may be exploited by corruption.
Stewardship:
We are called to be responsible stewards of God's gifts, using wealth and resources justly and for the common good, rather than for selfish excess.
Holiness:
True holiness involves a commitment to uprightness and a rejection of dishonest practices that lead to the suffering of others and the disruption of families and communities.

"Today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross: for the immense love with which God has transformed the means to death into an instrument of life, embracing it for our salvation, teaching us that nothing can separate us from him and that his love is greater than our own sin."

"Dear friends, Saints Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis are an invitation to all of us, especially young people, not to squander our lives, but to direct them upwards and make them masterpieces. They encourage us with their words: "Not I, but God," as Carlo used to say. And Pier Giorgio: "If you have God at the center of all your actions, then you will reach the end." This is the simple but winning formula of their holiness. It is also the type of witness we are called to follow, in order to enjoy life to the full and meet the Lord in the feast of heaven."

🌙 Saturday Night Reflection 🌙

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." – Matthew 5:8

In a world filled with distractions, noise, and endless invitations to compromise our values, purity of heart might feel like an impossible standard. Yet Jesus speaks these words not as an unreachable ideal, but as a promise of what happens when we let Him be the center of our hearts. 💙

To be pure in heart is to live with a single focus—to desire God above all else. It’s not about being perfect or never making mistakes, but about allowing the Lord to cleanse our motives, heal our wounds, and guide our intentions. Purity isn’t only about avoiding sin—it’s about saying “yes” to what is true, good, and beautiful, even in small, hidden choices.

Today, purity of heart may look like turning off that show that dulls your spirit, choosing kindness over gossip, or giving your time to someone who can’t repay you. It’s in forgiving those who hurt us, even when the world says to hold a grudge. It’s in guarding our eyes, our words, and our thoughts so that they honor the One we love most.

When our hearts are purified, the veil between us and God becomes thinner. We begin to see Him—in the smile of a stranger, in the quiet of prayer, in the struggles that shape us, and in the joy that surprises us. And one day, we will see Him face to face. 🌿

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, create in me a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Remove anything that clouds my vision of You. Help me to love what You love, desire what You desire, and reject what pulls me away from Your grace. May my heart remain pure so that I may one day see You in the fullness of Your glory. Amen. ✝️

The priest is not a priest for himself; he does not give himself absolution; he does not administer the Sacraments to himself. He is not for himself, he is for you. After God, the priest is everything. Leave a parish twenty years without priests; they will worship beasts. If the missionary Father and I were to go away, you would say, "What can we do in this church? there is no Mass; Our Lord is no longer there: we may as well pray at home. " When people wish to destroy religion, they begin by attacking the priest, because where there is no longer any priest there is no sacrifice, and where there is no longer any sacrifice there is no religion.

BEING A PREACHER IS THE MOST DANGEROUS JOB ON EARTH.

Not because of demons.
Not because of persecution.
But because of accountability.

Every time you step on a pulpit,
Every time you handle the sacred Word, Heaven is watching. The World is watching. And the Judge is taking notes.

You are not just speaking about the Bible—
The Bible is silently speaking back to you.

“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” — James 3:1

You preach fire!
Do you live pure?

You preach holiness!
Do you hide sin?

You talk about sacrifice!
Do you cling to comfort?

You shout about truth!
Do you manipulate behind closed doors?

The scariest part of ministry is this: You can preach a Word that saves others—
While you yourself are on the road to destruction.

“After I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.” — 1 Corinthians 9:27

God is not impressed by sermons.
He’s watching your secret life.
He’s not moved by how loud you shout.
He’s measuring how deeply you obey.

Every time you open your mouth and say, “Thus says the Lord”— You sign a spiritual contract with heaven.
And one day, you will answer for every word.

You will answer for every soul you led right—
And every soul you led wrong.

This calling is not a career.
It’s a crucifixion.

It is not for applause.
It is for accountability.

It is not for platforms.
It is for eternity.

So before you chase the mic—
Ask yourself:

– Am I living the Word I preach?
– Would I still follow Christ if no one saw me?
– Is my heart pure, or am I performing?
– When I stand before God, will I be found faithful—or famous?

Because the same pulpit you stand on to preach truth…
Can be the same evidence used against you on Judgment Day.

Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers and what ever rank or position you may occupied.
This is the most dangerous job.

And the weight is real.

So tremble.
Repent.
And preach like a dying man to dying people.

Not for applause.
Not for influence.

But for the honor of standing before God and hearing:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:21

May we not be found wanting on the day of accountability, in Jesus' Glorious and Matchless Name .

We join the universal Church in celebrating with great joy the election of Chicago native Cardinal Robert Prevost, OSA as Pope Leo XIV, the 267th Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church!

Our new Holy Father studied at Villanova University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 1977. He joined the Augustinians that same year, and then came to the Catholic Theological Union (CTU) to earn an MDiv degree after professing his solemn vows. Ordained to the priesthood in 1982, he went on to earn a doctoral degree in canon law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

Our Holy Father began his missionary service to Peru in 1985 and served in numerous capacities. He returned to the United States from 1999 – 2014 to serve as Provincial of the Augustinian Province in Chicago and then as Prior General of the Augustinians. He returned to Peru as Bishop of Chiclayo in 2015, and he ministered there until being appointed by Pope Francis as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops in January, 2023 and later being named a Cardinal in September, 2023.

“O God, who in your providential design willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter, whom you set over the other Apostles, look with favor, we pray, on Leo XIV our Pope and grant that he, whom you have made Peter’s successor, may be for your people a visible source and foundation of unity in faith and of communion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen!”
