Naroon sa Genesis 13 ang tension sa pagitan nina Abram at Lot dahil dumami ang kanilang mga hayop at nagkakagulo na ang kanilang mga pastol. Sa halip na palalain ang sigalot, pinili ni Abram ang kapayapaan. Kahit siya ang mas nakatatanda at may karapatang mauna, sinabi niya kay Lot na huwag na silang mag-away dahil magkamag-anak sila. Dito makikita na sa mata ng Diyos, mas mahalaga ang relasyon kaysa sa lupa o ari-arian.

Makapangyarihan ang ginawa ni Abram dahil nagpakita ito ng kababaang-loob at pananampalataya. Imbes na ipaglaban ang “best part,” binigyan niya si Lot ng kalayaan na pumili muna. Sa biblical context, malinaw na nagtitiwala si Abram sa pangako ng Diyos na Siya ang magbibigay ng pagpapala, hindi ang sariling diskarte. It reminds us na ang tunay na seguridad ay hindi nanggagaling sa kinakamkam natin, kundi sa Diyos na tapat sa Kanyang salita.

Sa buhay natin ngayon, marami ring “Genesis 13 moments” - conflicts sa pamilya, kaibigan, o trabaho. Madalas gusto nating manalo o mapatunayan na tama tayo. Pero tulad ni Abram, tinatawagan tayo ng Diyos na piliin ang kapayapaan, magpakumbaba, at unahin ang relasyon. Kapag pinili natin ang pagmamahal kaysa pride, doon mas malinaw na makikita ang kilos at pagpapala ng Diyos sa ating buhay.
