On April 2nd, we commemorate the Feast of Saint Pedro Calungsod. Born in 1654 in the Visayas region of the Philippines, Pedro lived a humble life. His eagerness to understand the faith became apparent when he enrolled in Jesuit Missionary Schools. At the age of 14, he joined the Jesuit missions in the Mariana Islands, drawn by his fascination with Christ's teachings.
The canonization of Calungsod highlights his steadfast faith and dedication to spreading Christianity. Beatified by Pope John Paul II on March 5, 2000, Pedro was recognized as a martyr of the Catholic Church. Later, in 2012, Pope Benedict XVI canonized him, officially making him the second Filipino Saint.
Let us commemorate Saint Pedro Calungsod, recognizing him as a symbol of courage and faith. His life story encourages us to emulate his example, strengthening our Catholic beliefs and living out the Gospel in our daily lives. His journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of faith, motivating us to deepen our devotion and commitment to our religious beliefs.
