CASTRO RESPONDS TO DUTERTE OVER FLOODING CLAIMS

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro has hit back at Vice President Sara Duterte’s criticism of the Marcos administration, particularly her claim that the country remains flooded while the government focuses on her impeachment case and the proposed 2027 national budget.

Castro pointed to recent flooding in Davao, saying the situation highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to address flooding and related concerns.

She also cited the Ombudsman’s investigation into flood control projects in Davao, saying the probe forms part of efforts to determine whether irregularities occurred in the implementation of these projects.

KAPUNAN TO WITNESS: “DON’T ANSWER”

A light moment occurred during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte when private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan interrupted state auditor Roderick Wamil during the cross-examination by defense lawyer Michael Poa.

Poa asked Wamil whether, based on his assessment, there was any evidence showing that even a single centavo of the confidential funds had gone into the vice president’s personal pocket.

Kapunan immediately objected, saying the question had already been asked and answered, and instructed the witness, “Don’t answer.”

WATCH: Defense lawyer Carlo Narvasa questioned prosecution witness John Mark Calilung, a senior agent of the NBI, during the impeachment trial as he testified on the agency’s investigation into Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged threats against President Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.

During cross-examination, Calilung acknowledged that he has no personal knowledge of whether any of the three alleged offended parties personally filed a criminal complaint.

Narvasa then asked, “Did you really investigate this case?”—a question that drew an immediate objection from private prosecutor Amando Ligutan.

House Impeachment Prosecutor Terry Ridon reminded Vice President Sara Duterte that she is not a mere spectator in the impeachment proceedings, stressing that she is the one facing trial and should personally appear to defend herself.

“Hindi siya cheerleader ng impeachment proceedings na ito. Siya po ay nasasakdal. She has to be here for herself,” Ridon said.
