New Worthy Sirs thru CUF-E

San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 welcomed five new third degree members who recently joined the Charity, Unity and Fraternity Exemplification (CUF-E) held on July 18, 2026 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish at the City of Trece Martires, Cavite.

The five new Worthy Sirs are Aldwin P. Amaro, Rodolf M. Faner, Hector B. Gallos, Edilberto A. Malicsi, and Darwin D. Martin. They are groomed to join the 4th Degree come February 2027 and become Sir Knights of the council and serve as honor guards in the parish activities of the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz.

Grand Knight, Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., had pushed to strengthen the membership in the 4th degree and serve both the council and the parish needs as honor guards. “In the past, we have a lot of dedicated Sir Knights who were active honor guards. But, some already joined our creator, some are sickly due to old age, and a few relocated to other places due to work. We need to rebuild the ranks of the Sir Knights in order to serve in parochial activities and during funerals of our departed Sir Knights,” GK Noy Magada said.

Some other council members are hesitant to join the honor guards due to the expensive uniforms they have to shoulder. Because of this concern, Council 16138 had offered to interested members to become honor guards with monetary assistance on acquiring the complete J&B uniform plus sword depending on their activeness in all council programs.

July 2026 Lady Knight of the Month

Sis Peregrina V. Acupanda is the Lady Knight of the Month for July 2026. Sis Rina is the current president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary or simply called the Lady Knights under the supervision of San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 through its Family Program initiative.

She was one of the charter members of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate International (DMII), the other ladies auxiliary formed by Council 16138 in 2015. Sis Rina, together with her husband SK Flavian P. Acupanda, were former household leaders of the Couples for Christ.

In the parish, she was also once a member with the Ministry of Church Greeters and Collectors (MCGC) and recently a dedicated member of the Music Ministry in Liturgy (MML). In the community, Sis Rina is very much involved in the zumba group particularly with the seniors.

She also participated in community outreach program and other activities of the Knights of Columbus.

“We need to support the Knights of Columbus, wherein our husbands are dedicated members and spreading charity work to the needy parishioners. They have projects such as ASAP, the Aid and Support After Pregnancy, that only we the ladies can fully understand on how a mother feels during and after pregnancy,” Sis Rina said.

The Lady Knight of the Month award will be given monthly by the council to encourage its members to be model Catholic servants in the local parish.

A certificate will be signed by the current Grand Knight, Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., and their Council Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz, City of Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Squires to join the KofC Kids

Due to the recent news of the Luzon State Council that the Columbian Squires, the junior organization of the Knights of Columbus, will be finally dissolved this fraternal year, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 had decided to absorb all the existing members in their new group called the KofC Kids.

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Circle 5833 was formed on February 13, 2016 originally with 27 charter members. This year, it still has 15 active members and some of them are sons of the KofC.

Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. right-away approve on absorbing all the remaining Columbian Squires to the KofC Kids through its Family Program of the Faith in Action Program of Council 16138.

“They are our children, and they are our future knights. It is only proper that they continue to be under our supervision, “ GK Noy Magada said.

The council will still observe the founding anniversary of Circle 5833 which is already 10 years last February 2026. Although the celebration will be included in the activity of the KofC Kids.

KofC Kids

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 and its Ladies Auxiliary partners are in exploratory talks in bringing together their whole family to the activities and cause of the Knights of Columbus.

This is in line with the KofC Faith in Action of the Family Program, the Family Fully Alive. The objective is to involve all their children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and all other relatives of the KofC to be praying together as one. The age range of the KofC Kids is from 5 years old to 17 years old. All KofC kids reaching the age of 18 will become automatic members of the Knights of Columbus for young men and the Lady Knights for young women.

The Family Fully Alive program is a devotional initiative by the Knights of Columbus that helps members place God and the Catholic faith at the center of their lives. It encourages Knights and their families and relatives to grow together in holiness and cultivate their homes as a "domestic church".

The move will be put into motion for the approval of the council in their next meeting through the Family Program Director, Past Grand Knight Flavs Acupanda. The idea was discussed by the Lady Knights through Charter Grand Knight Dinan Arana and current Grand Knight Noy Magada.

New GK for the New FY

With full support and prayers, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 welcomes the new Grand Knight for Fraternal Year 2026-2027. Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. officially assumes as the new grand knight of the council today, July 1.

At 67-years-old, GK Noy is the 10th grand knight elected in Council 16138 since it was formed in 2015. He joined the Order on April 7, 2024. He rose through the ranks and become a 3rd degree member on February 8, 2026.

To ensure that the council activities be rightfully implemented this fraternal year, he approached and appointed the past grand knights to assist him to oversee the required Faith in Action programs. Appointed as the Program Director is SK Ferdz Arana. SK Allan Valdez was named as the Faith Program Director, SK Flavs Acupanda was assigned as Family Program Director, SK Esmer Ruidera was tasked as the Community Program Director, and SK Felix Manguerra as the Life Program Director.

SK Ferdz will also assist Deputy Grand Knight, Sir Armand Ventura, who is likewise designated as the Membership Director to ensure the recruitment process is fully in place.

GK Noy’s term focuses also on the strengthening of the KofC family to be actively participating in all the council’s activities, through the assistance of the KofC Ladies Auxiliary (Lady Knights).

The new officers are now Sis Rina Acupanda, president; Sis Evelyn Cruzit, vice-president; Sis Emelie Alfarero, secretary, Sis Arlene Pastor, treasurer; and Sis Evelyn Funtila, youth counselor.

To see to it that the KofC programs are shared to their wives and children, appointed also were Sis Raquel Arana as asst. program director, Sis Carmen Valdez as asst. faith director, Sis Fe Lobaton as asst. family director, Sis Emma Ruidera as asst. community director, and Sis Lyn Manguerra as asst. life director.

Happy New Fraternal Year 2026-2027

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 wishes all the Worthy Brothers in the Knights of Columbus around the world for a Blessed and New Fraternal Year 2026-2027 which will start tomorrow, July 1.

The Fraternal Year 2025-2026 ends today, June 30, and the Council 16138 is happy to convey its joyous felicitations to all members who supported, through thick and thin, all the programs of the council through the stewardship of Outgoing Grand Knight Esmeraldo E. Ruidera.

Council 16138 will start on July 1 with the new leadership under the Incoming Grand Knight Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. The council will be facing new challenges, new projects, and is wishing to complete all before the new fraternal year ends on June 30, 2027.

The council also expressed their heartfelt thankfulness to their Worthy Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz. Fr. Herald had shared his fatherly love and spiritually guided the KofC family on strengthening their faith.

The same great appreciation is given to the ever supportive I-35 District Deputy Robert S. Sogello who never tires of coaching the council on a regular basis so not to miss the activities and reports required by the KofC Order.

Let us all celebrate tonight for the breaking of the two fraternal years and pray to the Lord Jesus Christ for His Blessings and guidance on the new FY 2026-2027. Vivat Jesus!

LKOTM 2026-2027

Due to the overwhelming response and support of the KofC Ladies Auxiliary on helping the programs of Council 16138 starting on the Fraternal Year 2026-2027, incoming Grand Knight, Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., approved the proposal of the Program Director to at least recognize the Lady Knights.

Thus, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 is launching in July the Lady Knight of the Month (LKOTM) award in recognition for her valuable insights and inspiration to the parish, community, and to the council.

This is in addition to the monthly awards given by the council to the Family of the Month (FOTM) and the Knight of the Month (KOTM).

The selection committee for the LKOTM will be headed by GK Noy Magada, with committee team members SK Dinan Arana, Program Director, and Sis Rina Acupanda, President of the Lady Knights.

Patterned to the KOTM, the award will be given to a member who have shown exemplary performance to the Council’s programs and has passed the following criteria.

1. Does the member have a robust prayer-life that goes beyond weekly mass attendance?
2. Has the member made significant contributions to the parish church and community?
3. Is the member active in serving her local community?
4. Is the member a true Catholic woman?
5. Does she serve as a model woman to his sisters?

The award will be signed by GK Genovevo Magada and their Worthy Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal. This is a local initiative of Council 16138 to give morale recognition to the KofC Ladies Auxiliary.

16138 Council Chamber

With the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney and the blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ, the 10-year dream of San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 may come into reality … the construction of its council chamber.

Just recently, incoming Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. received a go ahead reminder from Worthy Chaplain and Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, to proceed on all the council’s pending projects. This includes the vocations support program for those entering the seminary, the strengthening of the honor guards for church activities, and the construction of the council chamber.

Outgoing Grand Knight Esmer Ruidera and Past Grand Knights Allan Valdez, Flavs Acupanda and Dinan Arana had convened and agreed to focus on the instruction of the Worthy Chaplain. They immediately laid out a plan for a 5 x 10 sqm. simple structure beside the newly constructed big multi-purpose hall. I-35 District Deputy Robert Sogello had also vowed to support on the project.

As it is designed for the use of the Knights of Columbus, other ministries and lay associations are welcome to use the chamber as an alternative meeting place aside from the Parish Social Hall, with prior arrangement. The chamber may accommodate for smaller crowd of 25 persons in a sitting capacity.

The council chamber will also be the official office of the Council 16138 and the KofC Ladies Auxiliary (Lady Knights). It will also be a museum of sorts where all past grand knight portraits and council’s awards will be displayed.

KofC Squire Roses

Through the suggestion of the Lady Knights, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 may soon sponsor their daughters whose age range from 10 to 18 years old into a new girl group called the Squire Roses. This will be the counterpart of the Columbian Squires, their sons who have the same age range.

The first Knights of Columbus organization to recognize the Squire Roses was Washington, D.C., and was followed by the Knights of Columbus in Virginia. In 1997, Washington DC Knights of Columbus adopted the Squire Roses as their youth program for young ladies. The first Circle of Squire Roses is created on March 9 of that year.

Council 16138 had already formed the Columbian Squires in 2016 which is called the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Circle 5833. These are Catholic young men whose ages are from 10 to 18 years old. The junior knight was organized through the stewardship of Charter Grand Knight Ferdinand Arana.

In May 2023, Archbishop Gilbert Garcera of Lipa has called for the revival and strengthening of the Columbian Squires to promote leadership, character development, and priestly vocations among Catholic young men. This prompted Council 16138 to re-establish the Circle 5833 in 2023 through the efforts of Past Grand Knight Allan Valdez.

However, the Lady Knights also want their daughters to join the Columbian Squires. Then, the solution only is to create the Squire Roses to be supervised by the Lady Knights. The membership is open to all their relatives, daughters, grand daughters, sisters, nieces, neighbors, and all Catholic girls who want to join the Squire Roses. Young ladies who are 19 years old and above will be welcomed as members of the Lady Knights. The intention is to bring their whole family to participate in church and community activities of the Knights of Columbus.

The new set of officers for San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 Ladies Auxiliary (Lady Knights) for Fraternal Year 2026-2027 are Sis Rina Acupanda, President; Sis Evelyn Cruzit, Vice-President; Sis Emelie Alfarero, Secretary; Sis Arlene Pastor, Treasurer; and Sis Evelyn Funtila, Youth Counselor.

Family of the Month - June 2026

The Knights of Columbus never forgets the family of a deceased member, nor left them behind. This is one of the objectives of Blessed Michael McGivney when he formed the Order.

But what is interesting to note that the wife of a faithful departed brother stepped in to continue the legacy of her husband, the first three pillars of being a Knight … Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

Sis Evelyn P. Cruzit, the widow of Sir Narciso E. Cruzit (+), never stopped in sharing her time, talent and treasure to others. With the help of her two children, who are now both professionals, the Cruzit family has contributed a lot both in the church and community. Her son, Sir Knight Jasper Kenneth, a 4th Degree member of the council and a former lay minister of the eucharist, and her daughter Justine Nicole, an original member of the Squirettes of Mary Immaculate, are very supportive on their Mom’s activities.

A very active member of the KofC Ladies Auxiliary, also known as Lady Knight, Sis Evie is also a member of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate International (DMII). She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Via Verde Village Home Owners Association (VVVHOA).

The Knights of Columbus is selecting each month a family that models Christian family values and visibly lives them every day. This is to promote and support the development of strong and vibrant families in the parish.

A certificate will be given and signed by the current Grand Knight, SK Esmeraldo E. Ruidera, and their Council Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz, Summerwind Village 4, Burol Main, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

However, the Family of the Month may also receive separate citations from the Luzon South State Council in Intramuros, Manila and from the Supreme Council in Connecticut, USA.
