January 2026 Knight of the Month

If there is someone whom the Grand Knight can entrust his plans and delegate his duties in his absence, it is his next in command … the Deputy Grand Knight.

GK Esmeraldo E. Ruidera confidently picked out his protégé, SK Avelino B. Cabrejas, Jr., as the Knight of the Month for January 2026 for the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138. Aside from being the deputy, SK Jojo (Avelino’s pet name) is also the Program Director of the Council.

Working silently behind the scenes, the Deputy Grand Knight cm Program Director supervises and motivates the other activity directors of the Faith in Action committees, who are the directors of the Faith, Family, Community and Life committees, which are tasked to deliver four programs each in a fraternal year.

SK Jojo is a 4th Degree member of the council. He joined the order on October 9, 2016. He got promoted to 2nd and 3rd degrees the following year, and become a Sir Knight on March 18, 2018. SK Jojo had been previously appointed as a Financial Secretary and was elected Treasurer before he gained respect and elected as Deputy Grand Knight this fraternal year.

Groomed to be the next Grand Knight for FY 2026-2027, SK Jojo is working steadfastly on completing the required programs before this fraternal year ends this coming June.

The Knight of the Month award is given monthly by the council. This is a worldwide project by the Knights of Columbus to encourage its members to be model Catholic servants in the local parish.

Family of the Month - January 2026

We always say that a Knight is always a Knight. And so, we must not forget that the family of a departed knight remains the family of the living brother knights. This is what Sis Betty Lavisores, the wife of the late Past Grand Knight Alberto M. Lavisores, had proudly shown to the members of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138. She sees to it that despite the absence of SK Bert, the Lavisores family actively participates and contributes to the programs of the council as well as the church activities at the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz.

With the support of her daughters Angela Marie, Mary Grace, and Mary Louis, and the grandchildren, the Lavisores family made significant contributions to the church, community and the council. Sis Betty always ensures that what she and her late husband had started sponsoring before, like the 9-days novena and the Feast Day of Sto. Niño, as well as the free morning meal on Misa de Gallo, to name a few, is religiously executed yearly in memory of the late SK Bert Lavisores.

Sis Betty was not only a wife of a knight. She is also a member of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate International (DMII), Mother Butler Guild (MBG) and the Apostolado ng Panalangin (AP). Seen to follow the footsteps of his Lolo, is the grandson Christian Joseph R. Lavisores. He is a member of the Columbian Squires and the Ministry of Altar Servers (MAS).

The Knights of Columbus is selecting each month a family that models Christian family values and visibly lives them every day. This is to promote and support the development of strong and vibrant families in the parish.

A certificate will be given and signed by the current Grand Knight, SK Esmeraldo E. Ruidera, and their Council Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz, Summerwind Village 4, Burol Main, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

However, the Family of the Month may also receive separate citations from the Luzon South State Council in Intramuros, Manila and from the Supreme Council in Connecticut, USA.

A Pure Knight

One of the traits of a Knight of Columbus member is being pure. It is a Knight symbolizing the Order’s core values and living out Catholic teachings, promoting religious freedom, and serving others as acts of mercy. Being a "Pure Knight" means fully embodying the principles of charity, faith, and service that define the Knights of Columbus, a devout Catholic gentleman dedicated to faith, family, community and youth programs.

One example is Bro. Ray Kenneth Igmat Arana. Still single at 28 and a “challenged individual,” Bro. Kenneth remains loyal and focused to his duties as a member of the council and a church servant of the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz. He serves as one of the members in the Ministry of Church Readers and Commentators, or also known as Lay Minister of the Word.

Bro. Kenneth is one of the early members of Council 16138, joining the Order on July 25, 2015. He was then appointed that year as Chief Counselor of the Columbian Squires, San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Circle 5833, the youth version of the Knights of Columbus.

Despite being a PWD, he was able to guide the first batch of 35 young boys of the Columbian Squires leading them in the procession activities, guiding how to pray the holy rosary and eventually becoming Christ-like young servants themselves. Most of the Squires continued to serve as sacristans and some joined as choir members like Bros. Mark Lopez and Rey Adolfo who are also now members of the Knights of Columbus. Without everyone noticing, Bro. Kenneth had contributed a lot silently his talent, time and treasure to the youth. Bro. Ray Kenneth Arana was promoted to 2nd Degree on Oct. 27, 2024.

Immediate Past Grand Knight, SK Flavian P. Acupanda, had chosen Bro. Kenneth as the Knight of the Month for June 2025. This is a worldwide project by the Knights of Columbus to encourage its members to be model Catholic servants in the local parish. PGK Flavs is also a church servant being an EMHC officer at the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz.

A Loyal Knight

A loyal Knight of Columbus is a member who demonstrates a strong commitment and dedication to the Catholic fraternal order's core principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

In essence, loyalty for a Knight of Columbus means being a devoted, practicing Catholic man who leads, serves, protects, and defends his faith, family, and country alongside his brother Knights.

And that you can see within the person of Sir Knight Jessie B. Lobaton. At 65-years-old, SK Jessie is still very much active in the council. He normally volunteers as one of the honor guards of the KofC particularly during procession activities at the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz.

Bro. Jessie is a charter member of San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 joining the Order on January 11, 2015. He became a Sir Knight on March 18, 2018. He was appointed three times as the Public Relations Officer of the council from 2021 to 2023. Then he was assigned as the Life Director in 2023, Faith Director in 2024, and the Program Director in 2025.

Bro. Jessie is also a religious member of the Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion (EMHC) and never tire to serve his scheduled duties particularly at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Chapel in Via Verde Village where he resides.

A quiet member, he supports the fellow Knights in their efforts to serve the parish and community. This includes mutual aid and assistance to sick, disabled, or needy members and their families, a core part of the Order's founding mission. He is also a silent contributor on helping the youth particularly the Ministry of Altar Servers (MAS).

Same as their patron, Christopher Columbus, Bro. Jessie is also a seafarer and is still engaged in his profession until these days.

October 2025 Knight of the Month

Through the unanimous recommendation of the Program Director and the Membership Director, Grand Knight Esmeraldo E. Ruidera approved the appreciation to SK Antonio M. Buena, Jr. as the Knight of the Month for October 2025.

Bro. Jun had religiously supervised and documented the Block Rosary Program of San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 for the whole month of October. He even volunteered to transport the brother knights, as prayer warriors, and the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the residences of the members across the Summerwind Village 4, Manuela Ville, South Crest Village, Via Verde Village, Fiesta South/Arcontica, and the Remedios Ville areas.

GK Esmer also had recently appointed SK Buena as the Director of the Evangelization and Faith Formation (EFF), in addition to his current position as the Chancellor of the council.

Bro. Jun is a charter member of Council 16138, joining the Order as 1st degree on January 11, 2015. He then rose to the rank of 4th degree on April 26, 2015. SK Buena was elected twice as the council’s Grand Knight, for the fraternal year commencing from July 2018 to June 2019. He was reelected for the fraternal year starting July 2022 to June 2023. Bro. Jun was also a recipient of the Fr. McGivney Award sent by the Supreme Council in USA for the membership growth in 2019.

The Chaplain's Day

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 wishes our heartfelt felicitations for a Happy Birthday to our Worthy Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz.. We are wishing Fr. Herald, also a first degree brother knight, a day of joy and love, and hoping for a year of happiness and success with the prayers and blessings from our beloved founder, Blessed Michael McGivney. We wish you more birthdays to celebrate Worthy Brother in the years to come. God Bless po. 🙏😇🥰

Family of the Month – October 2025

October 2025 may mark the very first month SK Hernane D. Denolo would feel a void in his family’s complete and happy home. For the matriarch of the family already returned to her creator in September. The Denolo couple was an inspiration of love and respect to the community in the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz. They were very much participative in church activities and even in the households of the Couples for Christ (CFC) community. In the past months, the lovely couple was even seen going to church together on walking canes or on wheelchair. Inseparable as they were, both were frequent in and out of the hospital together, too.

However, Bro. Attorney, as everyone called Hernane being a lawyer by profession, remained strong in his faith to the Lord God. He asked his brother knights to include their home in the Block Rosary program of the council as his late wife Rufina used to pray the Holy Rosary daily. He wanted to reminisce all the happy days together with his wife as they both successfully raised their four children and are now doing well in their chosen careers. Margarita Flora is a certified public accountant in the USA; Maria Nicole is a doctor physician at the Department of Health; Bernadine is a doctor orthodontist with two private clinics; and son Jeremiah Hernan is a business owner of two coffee shop branches. At 73-years-old, SK Denolo still keeps the Christian family values with his dearly wife always inside his heart.

SK Hernane was the Worthy Advocate of the Council 16138 for seven years. He joined the Knights of Columbus on November 12, 2016 and became 4th degree on March 18, 2018. He was the main speaker or Exponent of the Constitution (EC) of the Ferdinand Magellan Province exemplification team for the South West Luzon which includes Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro provinces.

A Generous Knight

The Knights of Columbus's core principles are faith, charity, and fraternity, with charity being the foremost principle guiding all of their activities.

A generous knight highlights the organization's members who dedicate their time and money to numerous causes, such as supporting disaster victims, funding the restoration or repairs of the parish church, and providing resources like food and clothing to those in need.

In the old medieval period, a generous knight, seeing a fellow warrior's sword drop in battle, would hand over one of his own swords rather than taking advantage of the situation.

This is one of the chivalrous characteristics a Knight of Columbus has. And Brother Wilson G. Vicente is one of them. Fondly called as Bro. B**g, he goes beyond his means by helping the cause of the council as well as serving the Lord Almighty. He is also a devout member of the Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion (EMHC).

Bro. B**g is a charter member of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138, joining the Order on January 25, 2015. He used to be a seafarer just like Christopher Columbus, who was considered by the founders as a symbol of Catholic faith and discovery for the organization.

Through the years, Bro. B**g never failed to support the programs of the parish in his own little way. He serves, contributes, and assists his peers without complaints. He is a benefactor particularly for the Ministry of Altar Servers (MAS) and even volunteers to transport the servants to and from the parish church and chapels.

The Honorable Knight

Members of the Knights of Columbus live up to the organization's principles of service, faithfulness, and good citizenship. Moreover, members of the 4th Degree are often recognized for their service and a higher level of commitment and dedication. They are sometimes referred to as "Honorable Knights."

One of the respectable, silent but honorable members of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 who is also a devout member of the Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion (EMHC) at the Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz is SK Alfredo B. Bendo.

Sir Fred, as he is often called, quietly contributes to the needs of the council particularly on supporting the youth, the Columbian Squires and the Ministry of Altar Servers. He was also one of the sponsors of the Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest project which was launched last fraternal year to energize the Grades 8-12 students in public, private or parochial schools to become active citizens grounded in their Catholic faith.

His stature as a leader was honed by being the former president, for several years, of the Home Owners Association at the Summerwind Village 4, Dasmariñas City. He was also a former president of the Lions Club International in Tagaytay City.

Sir Fred joined the Knights of Columbus on June 9, 2018. He rose to the ranks of 4th Degree on January 17, 2025. Now at 74-years-old, he is considered as one of the “Honorary Members” of Council 16138.

Immediate Past Grand Knight, SK Flavian P. Acupanda, had chosen Sir Knight Alfredo as the Knight of the Month for February 2025.
