Let us be one in prayer for our beloved shepherd, the Most Rev Jose A. Cabantan, DD who will be taking the responsibility as the Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro. He will take possession of his office on 28 August 2020, feast of St Augustine.

PRAYER FOR ONE’S BISHOP
(Prayer for Bishop Jose Cabantan, DD)

Almighty God, may our Bishop, The Most Reverend José A. Cabantan, D.D., stand firm and shepherd Your flock by Your strength in the majesty of Your name. May our Bishop so guide the Diocese of Malaybalay in the remaining weeks and to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro he will soon possess, that the priests of the Church will be clothed with justice and truth so as to lead all Your people in Jesus’ name to eternal salvation.

Make our Bishop a strong and fearless leader, dear God, in union with the college of bishops throughout the world and in unity with that chief shepherd on earth, our Holy Father, the Pope. Give them the courage to take a stand, dear Lord. If our bishops do not direct us firmly and clearly with the Word of God, we become a flock without a shepherd. Give us, dear Lord, the courage to support our Bishop by word and action, and to create a spirit of unity among fellow presbyterium, parishioners, and among all in this diocese that he will leave and to the metropolitan archdiocese that he will shepherd, so that our Bishop will know that we welcome the truth, that we will accept obedience, that we will support him when he imitates Christ Jesus in fearless leadership even unto death.

Dear God, our Bishop is your chief representative in this diocese and to the metropolitan archdiocese. He has the fullness of the priesthood of Jesus Christ, the High Priest. Yet, our Bishop is only human. He has feelings and disappointments. Give him strength and give Your people strength to stand as one with our Bishop in the unity of the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
