NIGHT PRAYER

John 16:33

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Inspiration

Through Jesus, we as earthly beings have also found a path to overcoming the world. But, the only lasting transcendence is that granted to us by the Lord. Many might try other methods, the most sad and tragic one common today being drugs. Yet, without salvation and the word of the Lord, these attempts are doomed to fail. In the Christian faith we transcend ourselves into more perfect beings, and finally upon our day of reckoning, we transcend our flesh and enter into the eternal Kingdom. Drugs on the other hand allow one only to descend deeper into oneself and one's own anxieties, only to return to one's original position. Rather than being truly liberated, one simply plunges deeper into a need to escape. Without God, and one's spirit, one cannot truly transcend this life, one may merely bore deeper into its illusions.

Prayer

God Our Heavenly Father, I thank you for counting me amongst those of your blessed children, who know your name and wish to sit at the feet of your throne. I pray for those to whom you speak, but are too deaf to listen. May they find inner wisdom and the true path into eternal life; through your divine glory and mercy alone, Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

Luke 1:76-78

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

Inspiration

Do you honestly confess to your sins? On the surface of it, it is easier to confess and own up to the largest errors when one has clearly been caught, for these sins are the most blatant and glaring. However for the true follower of Christ, who knows there is no realm which may hide or obscure itself from God's light, real courage comes in facing the darkest desires of one's heart, even if they have not yet been committed, or have instead been covered up. In asking for forgiveness not because one is caught, or for fear of retribution, but rather in clearing one's conscience, in obedience to a moral order of purging one's heart before one's maker, this is a mark of the truly faithful, the truly courageous. Evil often stems from weakness, of not being able to look it in the eye fully, or giving it a disguise. With God's divination, we may trust and find this power to purge it from our souls.

Prayer

Lord Almighty, in your infinite wisdom and glory, you know and see me better than I do mine own self, therefore grant me the courage to face my sins and wicked desires. Let me not give them shelter in secret and in shadow, to harbor their temptations and will, where they may grow stronger; but help me purge them in your light, and cast them out of your Eden in Heaven. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

John 1:4-5

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Inspiration

Death equals darkness, whereas life equals light. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who believe in him have eternal life. That means they have been called out of darkness and into the light. Hallelujah! Furthermore, darkness will never overcome the light for his light shines in the darkness. Much like how even in the darkest room the flicker of a candle light is seen, his light will never be extinguished.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for the incredible gift of your son, Jesus Christ. Through his death and resurrection, we have been set from death and given eternal life. Our salvation sets us apart in the midst of darkness. Thank you for overcoming darkness, O Lord. May we live our lives shining brightly to bring your glory and draw others to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

NIGHT PRAYER

John 15:5 John 15:8

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Inspiration

Throughout nature in God's glorious work we can see interdependence between species. It is this basic tenet of symbiosis that John describes as emanating from Christ, serving to highlight that both parties, us, His willing disciples and God himself, require one another.

Prayer

God almighty, thank you for you word and truth, and for giving me the nurturing and support I need. Give me today my daily bread, as I promise to praise and serve thee in all I do, in all I accomplish. For your glory I wish to labor, so that your light might never be extinguished. Everlasting flame, remain with me now and evermore, Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

Philippians 2:14-15

Do all things without murmurings and disputings:That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Inspiration

Do you want to live differently than those who do not follow God? Stop grumbling! As believers, we are told to avoid grumbling and arguing in everything – instead, we should do all things as unto Christ. If you take a look around, you will hear a lot of people grumbling and complaining. Imagine how different you will look if you replace the constant complaining with joyful thanksgiving – you will shine like the stars in the sky.

Prayer

Dear God, I know I have grumbled and complained about my circumstances, and I know I have argued with others. Help me to change my attitude today. Help me to have an attitude of gratitude so I may be seen as blameless and pure in Your eyes. May I live my life so that I may bring Your glory and draw others to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

NIGHT PRAYER

Psalms 136:1 Psalms 136:26

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Inspiration

Share with all those who wish to rejoice in the God Almighty. It comes with the territory; accept and give thanks to the Lord, and be granted everlasting loving mercy. Give thanks to the Lord, and enter into his Kingdom!

Prayer

Lord God, unworthy as I am, grant me mercy upon earth as in your Heavenly Kingdom. Hear my song of praise to thee, of your goodness and your majesty. Rejoice in your name, your goodness and your grace. Lord God, as wretched a sinner as I am, I give thanks to thee, for showing me the divine light and mercy. Father above, I rejoice. I rejoice in Jesus' name. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

Philippians 1:20

According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

Inspiration

It is easy to be fearful or worried about how nonbelievers will perceive you; however, as the Apostle Paul shows, we have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to Jesus Christ! Instead, we should boldly share our faith in Jesus with others. Yes, people have suffered for their faith (and some have even died), but we should be courageous enough to allow both our lives and our sufferings to display Jesus boldly.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for loving me enough to send Your Son to save my life. Thank you for not turning away from me while I was yet a sinner even though You had every reason to be ashamed of me. Forgive me for the times when I was ashamed and scared to share my faith in You with others. Give me the boldness to share Your hope with others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

NIGHT PRAYER

Psalms 1:1-2

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Inspiration

As much as it may pain us to admit it, we are all products of our environment. Being constantly surrounded by negativity, sinners and deceit, one can hardly hope to maintain a healthy relationship, either with others or God. However, surrounded by encouragement, love and understanding, the same individual may flourish and nurture not only themselves but also those around them. The disciples surrounding Jesus could be taken as an example. This passage reminds us to keep when possible, the company of the virtuous, in order to avoid transgressions.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank you for my family and friends and the care and compassion they have shown me, through your love and grace. As I live to serve your name, please help me treasure and love each and every one of them, and continue by your kindness to safeguard them from all evil and temptation. Keep us safe, locked in your warm and everlasting embrace. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

John 19:38-39

And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

Inspiration

The historical context of both these men mentioned in the passages is interesting in that both while not strict adherents to Jesus whilst he was still alive, came nevertheless to him after his death. In trying to ensure Jesus had a proper burial, they both made themselves unclean for Passover, but nevertheless became converts in Christ. Even from beyond the cross were these men so moved that they came to Jesus. It is never too late for us either, to turn to Christ for salvation!

Prayer

Lord my guide, I thank you for Your loving heart, which remains forever open to all men. Let all who hear the name of Jesus, be drawn towards Your accepting light and embrace. I ask all this, so that I may see Your Paradise swell, and hear all the clearer Your name rejoiced. Jesus Christ and Lord Almighty up on high, praise be Your welcoming hearts for all mankind. Amen.
