Aglipayan Youth Encamps to Ignite Faith
Close to 300 youth participants attended the Annual Summer Youth Camp of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente - Diocese of Negros Oriental and Siquijor from April 18 to 22, hosted by the IFI - Parish of St. Vincent Ferrer, Bindoy, Negros Oriental.
With this year’s theme, “Catching Fire: Igniting our Faith in Serving God and People” based on 2 Corinthians 4: 6-7, activities, speeches, sermons, biblio-theological reflections, cultural presentations, worships and eucharistic celebrations were centered on intensifying the knowledge on the faith basics of the nationalistic and revolutionary church.
Activities were purposely done in order to increase the understanding of each member of the Youth of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente on the faith stand of IFI as a church, born out of the struggles of the Filipino masses. This is to further reclaim the heritage of faith and struggle for the Filipino church with its earnest desire to constantly fight for justice, equality, abundant life for all and peace towards the establishment of God’s reign on earth.
This year’ pool of speakers for the inputs include: Rt. Rev. Romeo Tagud, Bishop of Siargao Diocese (Philippine National Situation); Rev. Fr. Eberson Pasilan (IFI Identity); and Youth Chaplain Rev. Fr. Jemmer Morales (BTR on the Theme).
Also, the Cultural Night embraced a new format this year through a “Worship through Music, Dance and Theater Arts” entitled “Pagsamba at Pakikibaka” with the resounding messages of IFI’s faith identify and spirituality.
The second edition of Mr. and Ms. Baliktaran conveys the youth organization’s response towards the IFI Supreme Council of Bishops’ Statement towards LGBTQI entitled, OUR COMMON HUMANITY, OUR SHARED DIGNITY with its scriptural basis, “In Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith” from Galatians 3:26. Here, the IFI reaffirms the role as an inclusive, accepting and liberating church to people regardless of sexual preference.
Livelihood workshops (banig making, dreamcatcher, bracelets, rainmaker, birdcaller, candle making) were also incorporated in order for the youth to interact with the workers in the community and at the same time, learn some new income-generating projects for their youth organization.
The five day encampment ended with a solemn closing worship and solidarity night led by the Diocesan Youth Executive Council Officers. Ms. DM Lorena V. Narciso, the Diocesan Youth Executive Council President symbolically broke pieces of bread and shared to the campers during the act of commitment. The emphasis of such rite was to remind the youth of their role in the huge work in serving God and people, broken into pieces, for all to take part in building God’s reign of Shalom. (Klein F.
