EARTHQUAKE PRAYER

Lord, at times such as this
when we realize
that the ground beneath our feet
is not as solid as we imagined,
we plead for Your mercy.
You have promised never to forget us.

Do not forget us now.
Today, so many people are afraid.
They wait in fear of the next tremor.
Be our rock when the earth
refuses to stand still
and shelter us under Your wings
when homes no longer exist.

Pierce, too, our hearts with compassion
we who watch from afar,
as the poorest on this side of the earth
find only misery upon misery.
Move us to act swiftly this day,
to give generously every day,
to work for justice always,
and to pray unceasingly
for those without hope.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
protect us from all harm.

Amen.

FIRST READING

First Reading according to Amos 8: 4-6, 9-12

Hear this, you who trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land! "When will the new moon be over," you ask, "that we may sell our grain, and the sabbath, that we may display the wheat?" We will diminish the containers for measuring, add to the weights, and fix our scales for cheating! We will buy the lowly man for silver, and the poor man for a pair of sandals; even the refuse of the wheat we will sell!"

On that day, says the Lord GOD, I will make the sun set at midday and cover the earth with darkness in broad daylight. I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentations. I will cover the loins of all with sackcloth and make every head bald. I will make them mourn as for an only son, and bring their day to a bitter end.

Yes, days are coming, says the Lord GOD, when I will send famine upon the land: Not a famine of bread, or thirst for water, but for hearing the word of the LORD. Then shall they wander from sea to sea and rove from the north to the east In search of the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.

PSALMS

Psalm 119: 2, 10, 20, 30, 40, 131

R. One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

Blessed are they who observe his decrees, who seek him with all their heart. R/

With all my heart I seek you; let me not stray from your commands. R/

My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times. R/

The way of truth I have chosen; I have set your ordinances before me. R/

Behold, I long for your precepts; in your justice give me life. R/

I gasp with open mouth in my yearning for your commands. R/

ALLELUIA Matthew 11: 28

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest, says the Lord.

Alleluia, alleluia.

GOSPEL

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 9: 9-13

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Reflection For today's Gospel:John 6:51-58
"I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh". God is like a living bread that anyone who eat him will live forever.Anyone who accept Him and follow His commandments will last forever.
We become what we eat. When we eat unhealthy foods we become weak and later on we become sickly.Jesus is offering His body and blood as our food. Now, are we ready to eat Him and be like Him? Do we believe in this Bread of life discourse of Jesus? Do we believe that it is Jesus' Body,Blood and Divinity that we are going to partake during Holy Communion?.After receiving Jesus, do we still Kneel because that's the gesture that we have to do and we do it just for the sake of doing it?.These are some questions for us to ponder with.
We are always invited to take Jesus' Body and Blood as our meal. When we partake His meal,we will now be ready to be broken and be shared so that others may also feel Jesus Love and Compassion for all.
Also,God sent Jesus to save men and restore Him to eternal life upon two conditions, that men will come to Jesus as one given to them by God and believe in Him.❤
