The Beatitudes are not just nice sayings. They are the heart of Christian life.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit…” (Matthew 5:3–12)

They show the attitudes God blesses and what it means to follow Jesus.
The Commandments tell us what not to do.
The Beatitudes teach us who to become.

The Church says
“The Beatitudes are at the heart of Jesus’ preaching.” (CCC 1716)
“They respond to the natural desire for happiness.” (CCC 1718)

True happiness is found in humility, mercy, purity, and endurance in God’s love.
“Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.” (Matthew 5:12)

February 02, 2026 | Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This feast, originating in fourth-century Jerusalem, came to be celebrated in Rome by the middle of the fifth century under its Greek title Ύπαπαντή, the Feast of the Meeting. It is also known as Candlemas Day, a celebration rich in light and meaning. It reminds us that in the Temple of Jerusalem, the long waiting of Israel finally meets its fulfillment: God comes to His people, not in power, but as a child carried in the arms of Mary and Joseph.

This feast reminds us that Christ is the Light of the nations, revealed to all, as Simeon proclaims. The blessing of candles today is not just a ritual; it is a call. Having met Christ, we are sent to carry His light into the world—into our families, our communities, and the darker corners of our hearts. Like Simeon and Anna, we are invited to live in patient faith, attentive hearts, and joyful witness, recognizing the Lord when He comes, often in simple and unexpected ways.
