In light of the church’s celebration of Youth Sunday on August 9, 2026, there is another lesson we can learn from the life of Joseph—besides faith and forgiveness: integrity.
Joseph’s story reminds us that integrity is not simply about knowing what is right. It is about choosing what is right, especially when doing so is difficult, costly, or unseen by others.
When Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce Joseph, he did not stay to test how strong his resistance was. He fled. He understood that sometimes the wisest response to temptation is not to fight it head-on, but to remove ourselves from it.
That is a lesson worth remembering, especially for young people navigating a world filled with pressures, influences, and temptations that can easily blur the line between right and wrong.
Integrity means knowing when to stand firm—and knowing when to walk away. It means protecting our values even when no one is watching. It means choosing faithfulness over momentary pleasure, character over convenience, and obedience to God over the approval of others.
Joseph teaches us that being set apart for God is not merely about what we believe. It is also reflected in the choices we make when we are tempted.
Sometimes, the most courageous thing we can do is simply flee.
“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” — Genesis 39:9
May we, especially our young people, grow not only in faith and forgiveness but also in integrity—living out who we are in Christ even when it costs us something.
