In the year of St. Joseph, with seemingly endless options for novenas, prayers, and other devotions to the foster father of Jesus abounding, where should a novice devotee even begin? For Catholic women who are hoping to find a future husband, you've come to the right place!

When Does the Novena to St. Joseph Start?
A novena to St. Joseph may be prayed at any time throughout the year, but the most common time is in the days immediately preceding the Solemnity of St. Joseph celebrated on March 19th (the novena prayer is prayed March 10th-18th). Other feast days of St. Joseph include the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, on May 1st (pray the novena April 22nd-30th), the Feast of the Holy Family on the first Sunday after Christmas (so, the dates will change slightly every year). 9 Day St. Joseph Novena Prayer for a Husband
We’ve noted previously that St. Joseph is one of three saints considered to be a patron saint of matchmaking. This makes him an ideal candidate for a novena for "waiting for God to send me a husband"! After all, he was the head of the Holy Family and foster-father to the Son of God, the Child Jesus! St. Joseph makes the list for being arguably the holiest husband of all time, “by protecting, providing for, and presiding over his own little household” in Nazareth. Below is the text of a 9-day novena to St Joseph as found on Pray More Novenas (see our resources section for more information). While the prayers are largely the same, each day addresses a different attribute or title of St. Joseph. We encourage all women to say this St. Joseph novena prayer for a good husband.
Day 1: (Honors St. Joseph, Most Just)
Saint Joseph, you are the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate you. You know that I have confidence in you and that, after Jesus and Mary, I come to you as an example for holiness, for you are especially close with God. The St. Joseph Novena for Jobs is always a popular prayer for Catholics looking for help with their career, as he is the patron of workers. In keeping with the honor accorded to St. Joseph as a model of holy work, officially celebrated under the title of St. Joseph the Worker on May 1st, many individuals choose to seek the saint’s intercession in their own job searches.
Powerful Prayer to St. Joseph for Healing
Those seeking St. Joseph’s intercession for the healing of any kind may appreciate the following prayer, from Leonard DeLorenzo. "Saint Joseph, when we do not have the words to ask for the healing we need, hear then our suffering as its own plea. Be attentive to what ails us and join it to the prayer with which you ceaselessly wrap the Divine Child whom you once held in your arms and now hold as your Savior, and ours."
An Ancient St. Joseph Prayer for Help With All Things
According to The Catholic Company (see resources), the following prayer, which is also known, and searched for, as ‘The Prayer That Never Fails’ dates back as far as 50 A.D.! It is a fairly simple prayer that could be easily memorized:
"Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.
Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.
Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen."
Our Conclusion:
Since prayers are not magic spells, the point is not to find the “perfect” prayer with which to seek St. Joseph’s intercession, as if finding and praying the right “prayer” will spit out a gumball from a machine. There isn't a way to pray for your future spouse that will automatically send Mr. Right your way!
