Romans 7:15-25 - The Battle Within

Although we know exactly what is right, and genuinely want to do it, we still find ourselves falling short. That struggle may be very discouraging, but it teaches us something important: knowing what to do is not the same as having the power to do it. The Law can show us what is right, but in and of ourselves we cannot live the godly life we desire.

That is why the answer to the battle within is not simply trying harder. Paul came to the place where he stopped asking what he could do and cried, “Who can deliver me?” The answer is Jesus Christ. Victory comes when we stop depending on ourselves and learn to depend on Him, looking ahead to the life and power of the Spirit!

Isaiah 45 - No other God

There are times when God seems hidden and life feels out of control. We may not understand what He is doing, why He allows certain circumstances, or how His plan could possibly work together for good. But God is never absent. He is always working, often in ways we cannot yet see, and nothing can stop His purpose. The same God who raised up kings, brought down nations, and opened doors no man could shut is still sovereign today.

Isaiah reminds us that there is no other God and no other Savior. Everything else we trust will eventually disappoint us, but the Lord never will. He calls us to turn to Him, trust His Word, and rest in the salvation He provides. In Jesus, we see that salvation fully revealed—the One before whom every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. The question is whether we will trust Him now, even when we cannot yet see what He is doing!

God’s Law is good. It reveals His holiness and shows us what is right, but it also reveals something we often do not want to see: the depth of our own sin. Like a mirror that shows us what is wrong but cannot fix what it reveals, the Law can expose our need but cannot transform our hearts. The problem is not God’s commands—the problem is that sin has corrupted us from the inside.

The good news is that God did not leave us with only a standard we could never reach. Through Jesus Christ, we have died to our old life and have been brought into a new relationship with Him. We are not changed by simply knowing more rules or trying harder; we are changed by the grace of God and the power of His Spirit working within us. The Law points us to our need for Christ, and Christ gives us the new life we could never produce on our own!

Sin used to rule our lives, but Jesus has set us free. The battle with sin is still real, but we do not have to live under its control anymore. By God’s grace, we have a new life and a new Master.

That means every day we have a choice about who we will listen to and obey. We can give in to the sin that once held us, or we can give ourselves to God. Grace is not permission to keep living in sin—it is the freedom to live for the One who set us free!

We all put our trust in something. It may not be a carved idol, but it can still be money, success, relationships, security, or even ourselves. The problem is simple: none of those things can truly save us. We can hold onto them tightly and still be holding onto a lie!

Isaiah brings us back to one clear choice: the LORD or the lie. The things of this world will fail, but the LORD will not. He made us, He knows us, He has not forgotten us, and He alone can redeem us. So instead of trusting what cannot save, we need to return to the One who can!

Romans 6:1-11 - Victory over Sin

Grace does not give us permission to stay the same. Jesus did not save us so that we could keep living under the same sin that once controlled us. He saved us to set us free. We may still struggle, we may still stumble, but sin is no longer meant to rule our lives!

In Christ, the old life has been put to death and we have been raised to something new. That means every day we have a choice: go back to what once held us, or walk in the new life Jesus has given us. Victory over sin is not found in trying harder on our own—it begins with knowing who we are in Christ and choosing to live in the freedom He has already given us!
