We congratulate Bro. Ralph Martin Inventor for his institution to the Sacred Ministry of Lectors which took place last Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the UST Central Seminary, Manila, Philippines. It was presided over by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Julito Cortez, D.D., Bishop of Dumaguete.

The liturgical ministry of Lector was established by Pope Saint Paul VI through the Apostolic Letter Ministeria Quaedam (1972) and are conferred upon candidates who are in formation and preparing for Holy Orders.

As the General Instruction of the Roman Missal teaches:

“The lector is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. He may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings. In the celebration of the Eucharist, the lector has his own proper function, which he himself must carry out.”
(GIRM, no. 99)

Sem. Ralph belongs to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, Brgy. Alijis of the Diocese of Bacolod.

We pray to the Lord of mercy that He may grant BRO. RALPH MARTIN INVENTOR and all his servants the grace of fidelity and reverence in the ministry of the Word for our good and the good of all His Holy Church.

𝕆𝔽 𝔸𝔻𝕍𝔼ℕ𝕋 𝔸ℕ𝔻 𝔸𝔾𝕌𝕀ℕ𝔸𝕃𝔻𝕆 𝕄𝔸𝕊𝕊𝔼𝕊

In accordance with pastoral norms and the sacred liturgical regulations of the Catholic Church, we hereby issue the following diocesan directives regarding the celebration of Advent and Aguinaldo Masses from December 16 to December 24:

1. 𝙇𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣

Advent and Aguinaldo Masses shall only be celebrated in duly designated Catholic chapels or churches.

2. 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙝𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙑𝙚𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙨

The celebration of these Masses is not permitted in:
• Malls that do not have a chapel dedicated for Catholic use
• Schools without assigned chaplains or community of religious
men or women
• Hotels or other secular venues

3. 𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚

In keeping with the universal norms of the Roman Rite and the long-standing liturgical practice of the Church, the following shall be observed:

• Evening Masses during the season of Advent, from December 15 to December 23, are considered as Advent Masses and are not to be confused with Aguinaldo Masses. Aguinaldo Masses shall not be anticipated. Anticipated Masses are only applied to Sundays and Solemnities and not to daily Masses. Purple vestment shall be used and the gloria is not recited or sung.

• Aguinaldo Masses are celebrated only at the early hour of the morning. The reason for the above observance is attributed to the “sacrificial spirit” of the custom. White vestment shall be used, reflecting the joyful Marian character of these devotional novena Masses.

• The Gloria is omitted in all evening Advent Masses, but sung during the Aguinaldo Masses.

4. 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜

While the Diocese permits Sunday Masses in malls for pastoral reasons as they are days of obligation, Aguinaldo Masses are devotional novena Masses. As such, they must be celebrated within sacred spaces dedicated to Catholic worship to preserve the sanctity and proper liturgical observance.

This directive is effective immediately and must be observed by all clergy, religious, and faithful under the jurisdiction of this Diocese until revoked by us or by our legitimate successor.

Today, on the Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday), the Ministry of Altar Servers joyfully celebrates the Investiture Rites of the Altar Servers, presided over by our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joel E. Roquez VF. Marked by the spirit of joyful expectation, this sacred rite clothes our young servants not only with vestments but also with a deeper commitment to reverence, discipline, and faithful service to God and His Church. Rooted in prayer and guided by tradition, this moment signifies their willingness and dedication to serve in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We give thanks for their generous “yes” to serve with humility and devotion. As the Lord teaches us, whoever wishes to be first among you must be the servant of all. May their ministry deepen their joy in Christ and inspire the community as we await the coming of the Lord.

Today the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Lucy. St. Lucy or Lucia was born in Syracuse, Sicily, where she also died. She was of a noble Greek family, and was brought up as a Christian by her mother, who was miraculously cured at the shrine of St. Agatha in Catania. Saint Lucy, was a Roman Christian martyr who died during the Diocletianic Persecution. She is the patron saint of the blind, eye ailments, and Syracuse, Sicily, her name meaning "light".

Let us pray..

May the glorious intercession of the Virgin and Martyr Saint Lucy give us a new heart, we pray, O Lord, so that we may celebrate her heavenly birthday in this present age and so behold things eternal. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
