Vocal nodules, often a result of improper vocal technique and overuse, can have harmful effects on one vocalโs health and overall well-being.
Jerianne Panisales, a dedicated student at the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and the current president of the academeโs Musikat Club, is leading a vital campaign against the unknown prevalence of vocal nodules amongst singers called โNoodle Notesโ.
Panisales grew up in the singing industry, having started at the age of 2. She had undergone vocal classes and further developments to enhance her vocal range and maintain the health of her voice. Thatโs why she highlights the importance of having awareness against vocal nodules not only for singers but also for everyone.
The project aims to shift the publicโs perception of vocal health and limits its scope within the Villa Homes Subdivision in Villa Angela, Bacolod City where the MVR-J*P Choir and OLPGV Choir are situated and extends to the USLS Musikat. The advocacy commenced last March.
By conducting a thorough needs assessment of the singers in her scope, it was found that most of them were not aware of the possibility of developing vocal nodules due to improper care of voices. So, Panisales developed orientations, symposiums, and workshops to help spread vocal health cognizance and proper vocal training.
Panisalesโ next step forward is enlarging the scope of her advocacy by sharing her own experiences in hopes of not only spreading awareness but also being an inspiration for others to start caring and implementing vocal hygiene and appropriate vocal training. By utilizing her platform to educate her peers, she looks forward to empowering fellow students to prioritize vocal health while pursuing their passion for music.
Through active participation in the musical field, Panisales is a great believer in leaving the legacy of her advocacy project, the Noodle Notes, in the MVR-J*P and OLPGV choirs, the USLS Musikat, and her fellow Lasallians.
Under Panisalesโ leadership, Musikat has become a beacon of advocacy, promoting healthy vocal practices and providing support to those affected by vocal nodules. Her dedication and passion for this cause serve as an inspiration to the entire university community.
