WHAT:
Attendance in the wedding celebration of Brother Jibril de Leon and Sister Shayma Capa, witnessing their union in accordance with Islamic teachings and traditions.

WHERE:
Talisay Islamic Center, Talisay City, Cebu

WHEN:

WHY:
As part of our commitment to support family-centered initiatives and uphold Islamic guidance in community life, SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter participated in the blessed wedding of Brother Jibril and Sister Shayma. The Nikah is a sacred covenant that strengthens families, preserves faith, and ensures that relationships are grounded in Islamic values.

The event reminded everyone that marriage is half of the deen, a means to build a righteous family, and an act of worship (‘ibadah) that brings peace, love, and responsibility between husband and wife.

WHO: The Nikah was facilitated by the Talisay Islamic Center Team, and attended with the support of:

•SPAG Balamban Chapter
•Balamban Islamic Center
•SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter
•Asturias Islamic Center

This collective presence reflected the unity of Region 7 SPAG chapters in guiding families and communities with Islamic values.

Through the guidance of the Talisay Islamic Center Team and the strong support of SPAG members, the ceremony highlighted the blessings of faith, respect, and community solidarity. SPAG Asturias, alongside its brother chapters, showed active support through attendance and engagement, affirming that family is the foundation of a strong and peaceful society.

Alhamdulillah, the celebration was filled with joy and inspiration. It served as a reminder of the beauty of marriage in Islam and the importance of unity within the Muslim community.

📌SPAG ASTURIAS CEBU CHAPTER REGION 7 IN ACTION!!📢
Strengthening Families: Guiding Traditions with Islamic Values

WHAT:
Attendance in a Proposal Visit (Pamalay) and Daawah session organized by SPAG Talisay City Chapter and the Talisay City Islamic Center (TCIC) Team to provide Islamic guidance regarding marriage arrangements between a Muslim brother and a Christian woman.

WHERE:
Sitio Cambawg, Barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City, Cebu

WHEN:
August 17, 2025 (Sunday) – 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN

WHY:
As part of our support for initiatives that promote peaceful family relations and Islamic guidance, SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter attended the activity led by SPAG Talisay Chapter and TCIC. The purpose was to clarify Islamic rulings on marriage, highlight the responsibilities of a Muslim man, and address misconceptions about compulsion in religion. The gathering also served to prevent possible conflict between families of different faiths, while strengthening mutual respect and understanding.

The session emphasized that Islam does not compel faith and that marriage must be grounded on respect, responsibility, and sincerity. Alhamdulillah, after the dialogue and Daawah session, the Christian woman embraced Islam with her family’s understanding and support.

The event was facilitated by SPAG Talisay City Chapter and the Talisay City Islamic Center Team, guided by:

Although not a lead organizer, SPAG Asturias Chapter showed full support through active attendance and engagement. Bridging Voices: Advocating for Muslim Affairs in Local Governance

WHAT: Attendance in Courtesy Visit and Dialogue on Establishing a Muslim Affairs Desk
WHERE: Balamban Municipal Hall, Balamban, Cebu
WHEN: July 25, 2025 (Friday)

WHY:
As part of our support for initiatives that promote inclusion and representation, SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter attended a meeting organized by the Darussalam community, together with SPAG Balamban Chapter, the Balamban Maranao tribe, and Ms. Arlene Salahuddin, Consultant on Muslim Affairs. The meeting was held at the Balamban Municipal Hall with the primary objective of proposing the establishment of a Muslim Affairs Desk in the municipality to support the local Muslim population and promote peaceful coexistence under the leadership of our newly elected mayor, Hon. Amos Cabahug.

The discussion emphasized the need to create an official municipal office that addresses the cultural, religious, and social concerns of the Muslim community, while fostering collaboration between Muslim leaders and the local government.

WHO:
The event was spearheaded by the Darussalam community, who booked and facilitated the meeting, alongside SPAG Balamban Chapter, the Balamban Maranao tribe, and Maam Arlene Salahuddin and her team. SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter participated in support of the initiative, along with other key groups including CMB (Cebu Muslim Brotherhood), municipal officials, and stakeholders committed to inclusive and responsive governance.

HOW:
During the session, organizers presented the vision, purpose, and urgency behind establishing a Muslim Affairs Desk in Balamban. Although not a lead organizer, SPAG Asturias Chapter offered its full support through active attendance and engagement. The gathering of multiple Muslim organizations and community representatives highlighted the unity and cooperation within the broader Muslim community in Cebu.

Guardians of Peace: Supporting School Safety and Community Security

WHAT: Peacekeeping and Student Safety Assistance at Sta. Lucia National High School
WHERE: Sta. Lucia National High School, Asturias, Cebu
WHEN: July 15, 2025 (M
Tuesday)

WHY:
As part of our ongoing commitment to peace and public service, SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter lent support to the daily security operations of Sta. Lucia National High School. Together with the Barangay Tanods, our members assisted in ensuring the safety and orderliness of students as they entered and exited their classrooms.

This initiative focused on fostering a safe learning environment and strengthening the collaborative efforts between community volunteers and peacekeeping forces.

WHO:
The activity was carried out by SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter members and officers, in cooperation with Barangay Tanods and school staff. The effort was guided by our Chapter President and in coordination with school leadership.

HOW:
From early morning to dismissal, SPAG members were on site to assist with monitoring student movement, guiding traffic flow, and helping maintain peace and discipline around the school premises. Our presence provided reassurance to both students and teachers, highlighting the power of community unity and proactive support.

We are grateful to Sta. Lucia National High School and the Barangay for allowing us to be part of this meaningful effort.

Strengthening Ties Through Community Engagement

WHAT: Special Community Introduction Session with Brgy. Captain and Officials
WHERE: Barangay Hall, Santa Lucia, Asturias, Cebu
WHEN: Today, July 14, 2025 (Monday)

WHY:
Upon the invitation of the Barangay Captain of Santa Lucia, SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter was given the opportunity to join the session alongside the Barangay captain and Konsehal. This meaningful encounter allowed us to formally introduce Salaam People's Advocacy Group (SPAG)—its purpose, programs, and the positive impact it aims to create within the community.

The activity served as an avenue to strengthen collaboration between SPAG and barangay leaders. Emphasis was placed on our mission to promote peace, community service, and unity, while offering support systems for both Muslim and non-Muslim residents alike.

WHO:
Present during the session were the Barangay Captain, and Konsehal, and SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter representatives, led by our Chapter President. The introduction and discussion about SPAG were conducted with clarity and sincerity, leaving a positive impression among local officials.

HOW:
The session was opened by the Barangay Captain, followed by an engaging discussion. SPAG’s background, goals, and recent initiatives were presented, including our commitment to assist during times of need and to build harmonious relationships across sectors. Questions were answered, and future cooperation was warmly welcomed.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Brgy. Captain and officials for their warm welcome and openness. This engagement marks another step forward in our mission to serve, connect, and uplift our communities.

Additionally, an important agreement was reached: each member will contribute ₱100 in the event of a fellow member’s or their immediate family’s passing, demonstrating our commitment to supporting one another during difficult times.

WHO: The meeting was attended by SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter Officers and Members, under the leadership and supervision of our Regional President, Khalid Atnum Ejoc.

WHY: The Istiqbalu Ramadan event was held to spiritually prepare for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. It aimed to deepen the understanding of its significance, encourage self-reflection, and strengthen faith through prayer, fasting, and community engagement. The gathering fostered unity among attendees, reinforcing the values of brotherhood, devotion, and mutual support.

WHO: SPAG Asturias Cebu Chapter Officers and Members actively participated in the event, joining fellow brothers and sisters in faith to welcome the blessed month.

HOW: The event featured inspiring Islamic lectures, Qur’an recitations, and collective prayers, allowing attendees to reflect on the essence of Ramadan.
