My heart aches as I witness the devastation brought upon our brothers and sisters in the Visayas region, specially in Leyte, Cebu and Negros, by Typhoon Tino. The loss of lives and the destruction of homes and livelihoods is a profound tragedy that demands not only our immediate assistance but also deep reflection.
As a pastor, I cannot ignore the cries of the afflicted, nor can I turn a blind eye to the suffering that has befallen our community. It is in times like these that our faith is tested, and we are called to embody the compassion and mercy that our Lord Jesus Christ taught us.
Yet, amidst this calamity, a righteous anger stirs within me. How can we stand silence by while corrupt officials squander the resources meant to protect and uplift our people? Their greed and negligence have shown us the impact of this typhoon, turning a natural disaster into a man-made catastrophe.
I condemn in the strongest terms those who have betrayed the public trust and enriched themselves at the expense of the vulnerable. Their actions are a grave offense against God and humanity, and they will not go unpunished. The Lord is a God of justice, and He will hold them accountable for their wickedness.
Let this tragedy serve as a wake-up call for our nation. We must demand transparency and accountability from our leaders, and we must work together to build a society where integrity and service are valued above personal gain. Only then can we hope to avert future disasters and create a more just and compassionate world for all.
Let us pray for the victims of Typhoon Tino, for their healing and restoration. And let us also pray for the repentance of those who have abused their power and betrayed their people.
Right now, our only hope is God's Divine intervention.
May God have mercy on us all and our nation, the Philippines.
