AN OPEN LETTER FROM THE SARARO YOUTH ORGANIZATION
April 15, 2026
To our respected leaders, public servants, and to Albay Electric Cooperative, Inc.,
Peace and good will.
We, the members of the SARARO Youth Organization, write this letter to express our deep concern regarding the scheduled power interruptions on April 16, 17, and 18, 2026, affecting several barangays in Camalig and Jovellar. While we understand that development activities such as line enhancement are necessary, we humbly appeal for reconsideration especially on the duration and number of days of this power outage.
At the height of the summer season, prolonged brownouts greatly affect our communities. The intense heat becomes unbearable for many families, especially for children, the elderly, and those with health conditions. Access to electric fans, refrigeration for food and medicines, and even clean water supply becomes difficult. Workers lose productivity, and small businesses our local source of livelihood suffer losses.
More importantly, in times when communication and emergency response rely heavily on electricity, extended outages pose risks to safety and well-being.
In this regard, we respectfully call on our local government officials and concerned politicians to intervene and help appeal for a more considerate schedule whether by reducing the number of days, shortening the hours, or implementing a phased interruption that minimizes the burden on affected communities.
We also call the attention of ALECO to hear the voice of the people you serve. We ask for transparency, proper consultation, and compassionate consideration of the real situation on the ground. Development should not come at the cost of the people’s basic comfort and dignity.
We are not against progress. We support improvements in our electrical system. However, we believe that such progress must always go hand in hand with sensitivity to the needs of the community especially during this season of extreme heat.
We remain hopeful that our voices will be heard and that immediate action will be taken.
Respectfully yours,
SARARO Youth Organization
For the people, for the community!
