Tuesday Devotion to St. Anthony of Padua

O Holy St. Anthony gentlest of Saints, your love for God and charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request).

O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms. The gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen.

This young Filipino saint, canonized in 2012, is an incredible example of courage, faith, and steadfastness. At a young age, he was a catechist and student of Jesuit missionary Father Diego Luis de San Vitores. In the 17th Century he journeyed to the remote Marianas Islands to preach the Gospel. He faced great danger and ultimately lost his life for the faith, becoming one of the most well-known martyrs from the Philippines.

His story also reminds us that holiness is not just for the elderly or the powerful but a way forward for everyone, young people included. Let us be inspired by his zeal to share the good news and his fortitude to profess.

May St. Pedro Calungsod intercede for us especially our young people so that we all of us may continue to grow in faith, and be courageous witnesses who share the love of Christ into the world today.

PRAYER TO ST. PEDRO CALUNGSOD

San Pedro Calungsod student, catechist, young migrant, missionary, faithful friend, martyr, you inspire us by your fidelity in time of adversity; by your courage in teaching the Faith in the midst of hostility; and by your love in shedding your blood for the sake of the Gospel.

Make our prayers your own (pause to mention your intentions) and intercede for us before the throne of Mercy and Grace so that, as we experience the help of Heaven, we may be encouraged to live and proclaim the Gospel here on earth.

Amen

LOOK | The CBCP issued a circular Saturday urging the faithful to wear white every Sunday in October and November and to display white ribbons in homes, churches, and public spaces as a prayer โ€œfor transparency, accountability, and good governance, and as a humble prayer that our nation may be washed clean and renewed in Godโ€™s mercy, and spared of further calamities.โ€

Let us reiterate our invitation for our people to turn again to God with humble and contrite hearts. Let us reiterate our recently released National Call to Prayer and Public Repentance, asking our people to observe it every Sunday-and, where possible, every day-until the Solemnity of Christ the King, with the tolling of bells.

Let it be our collective Miserere, our plea for mercy and renewal as a nation.
"Cleanse me with hyssop, that I may be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:9, 12)

Following the beautiful suggestion of Bishop Jimmy Afable, we encourage our faithful:
- to wear white clothes every Sunday of October and November and
- to display white ribbons in homes, churches, and public places - as a sign of our desire for transparency, accountability, and good governance, and as a humble prayer that our nation may be washed clean and renewed in God's mercy, and spared of further calamities.

Let our white garments be a symbol of the purity we seek for our land and our hearts.
May this season of prayer and repentance lead us to hope, healing, and the restoration of our common life in truth and justice.

Let us beg the Lord to renew our nation, and make us instruments of justice and peace.

MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY | October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary in the Catholic Church, highlighting the importance of this powerful prayer in deepening oneโ€™s relationship with God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This devotion is especially tied to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7, commemorating the Christian victory at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, which Pope Pius V attributed to the praying of the Rosary. Throughout the month, Catholics are encouraged to pray the Rosary daily, meditate on its mysteries, and grow in faith by reflecting on the life of Christ through the eyes of Mary.

WE PRAY | With the recent calamities, Typhoon Opong and the earthquake that struck the country, particularly in the Visayas, we are reminded of our need for faith, unity, and hope. As we begin the month of October, the Month of the Holy Rosary, we turn to our Blessed Mother, seeking her intercession and comfort in these trying times. We pray through her to the Lord, asking for healing, strength, and protection for our land and our people. May this sacred month inspire us to deepen our devotion, strengthen our communities, and rebuild with courage and compassion.
