This year MSC Mision Office Australia celebrates 25 years Anniversary. The MSC Mission Office work of evangelization has touched the lives of thousands of people through the missionary efforts and presence of MSC missionaries, MSC sisters, and OLSH Sisters around the world. MSC Mission Office is the brainchild of MSC Australian Province.

It manifested under the leadership of late Fr. Adrian Meaney MSC who promoted the Theme of MSC MISSION OFFICE, "I Thirst," next to a crowned Jesus in agony. The picture and phrase speak to something deeper, to show that there are in this world people still in need of human touch, in need of experience of the love of God, and at least to us, provides the opportunity for transformation from ego to a more respectful and caring attitude towards others.

After Fr, Adrian died, Fr. Roger Purcell MSC replaced him. Both Fr. Roger and Fr. Adrian are ex-PNG MSC missionaries.

Many people in PNG are privileged to benefit both financially and materially through the continuous support of the MSC Mission Office since its establishment. The main objective is not about raising money. It is about raising awareness and encouraging a missionary spirit that appeals to every living Christian to love and care for humanity and realize that we are all children of God.

It is a privilege to witness this historical moment with all MSC representatives around the world who came for the celebration. The Eucharistic Celebration was at St. Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, in collaboration with the feast day of Blessed Peter ToRot.

The contingent from PNG, Sir John Cardinal Ribat MSC KBE was the principal celebrant for the mass and present also was Br. Chris Anton MSC, administrator of MSC Mission Office PNG. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus Be Loved Everywhere....Forever...

The last words of Jesus when hanging on the Cross, “I thirst” (John 19:28), were agonising words we cannot describe. They were desperate words for survival. They were words begging for mercy for a second chance. In our world today, countless neglected people are craving for love, for care and for survival. Many are in incomparable dire situations crying for recognition that they have a dignity, a dignity that is given and ordained by God that we MAY KNOW HIM. Basic human needs are denied them. We cannot look far and wide. In a blink of an eye and you’d realised they were never far off. All this time, they were right there at our doorsteps. Water is an essential human need.
MSC Mission Office since its foundation supports and tries to give people the chance to access clean water by donating water tanks. The words of Jesus, “I Thirst” should ring bells in our ears to be aware that many still lack this basic need. We can be grateful we all have a human conscious that keeps the check and balance to sympathise with unfortunate voiceless human beings to at least have this basic necessity in their lives.
If you can see Jesus crying “I thirst” in another, or a group of people, that should already trigger something in you. MSC Mission sees as a dire need and your contribution to speak out to do something for our brethren in need, is what you need to do.
To be part of MSC Mission Outreach, we can all work together to bring the Heart of Jesus experienced by this people as well.

We are amidst the Holy week with a lot to be desired regarding our personal encounters with Jesus. It is a time to put ourselves in the shoe of all people who encountered Jesus in this critical moments, or the last days leading up to His Passion and Death. It is a time to remember the betrayal of the crowds and but also of the Apostles. It is a time to look into the heart of Judas who for thirty pieces of silver gave Jesus away. Peter is no exception for his denial contradicted and sold of his unwavering loyalty to Jesus by running an hiding away on His trial, suffering and dying on the cross.
Like the aposltes, we say “Yes” to him but at the slightest provocation, we kid ourselves and withdraw to our comfort zones and betray Him. It is more or less obedient one day and rebellious on the next. We willingly accepts Jesus lavishly only to crucify him by our sins.

Undeniably, we can see ourselves in need of salvation too. We are slaves to our nature and need to get out of that grip. With Jesus, we are strong, and steadfast. This week is a reminder that God remains faithful despite our inconsistency. Though saddened by our unfaithfulness, God continues to await the moment when we will voluntarily accept Him as our Saviour. Joseph Stalin, the Russian ruler who had the blood of millions of people on his hand once due to political and religious indifference once said, “We need young people who can give the revolution, not only their free afternoons but their entire lives.” On the same note much is asked of us by Jesus to give our lives to God, not partially.
Springing forth from that must be something real to substantiate God is truly present by a a helping hand to the oppressed, the dying, the lonely and broken hearted. Blessed Holy week Celebration.

In the story of the Good Samaritan and in other stories of Jesus, we see how he was at home with the despised people of his time –tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners. The MSC Mission Office strives
to follow the Good Samaritan, whose compassion reaches across ethnic groups and religions. We strive to give water, education and health services to people regardless of race or gender. And we endeavour to manage all our transactions with transparency and in a
manner that reflects our Christ-like motivation.

Mass Kit for a missionary:

Last year we were able to provide 12 Mass kits some of them for newly Ordained Missionaries. We hope to do the same this year. The average price is $500.00.

PNG was one of the recipients to these mass kits when 4 MSCs and 2 diocesans were ordained priests, These Mass Kits are quite handy and very much relieve the priests when doing pastoral visitations in very remote areas. We continue to pray for generous benefactors who made all these possible.

It is estimated that of the seven billion people, six billion have mobile (cellphones). However, only 4.5 million have access to toilets or latrines – meaning, 2.5 billion people, mostly in rural areas do not have proper sanitation. The countries where open defecation is most widely are the same countries with the highest number of under – five child deaths, high level of under-nutrition and poverty, and large wealth disparities. Moreover, over a billion people defecate in the open due to lack of proper toilet facilities.

Pope Francis when adressing the Food and Agriculture Organisation said, “A way has to be found to enable everyone to benefit from the fruits of the earth and not simply to close the gap between the affluent and those who must be satisfied with the crumbs falling from the table, but above all to satisfy the demands of justice, fairness and respect for every human being.”

In the dusk of the evening, we prepare to rest because we know another day is gone and a new one will dawn. But God still cares and provides for those who crawl out in dark, not because they belong to the dark, but because he created them to live and bring beauty to the night.

We have many people living in misery, not because God created them to live that way, but because society forced them to. How can we be agents of God's grace and beauty to them?

The ultimate aim of the MSC Mission Office is to restore all things in the risen Christ. This is
the great design of the whole of creation and history. Christ Jesus is at the centre of all things,
the axis upon which everything turns, drawing everything to Himself, in order to lead all to Our
Father in Heaven, through the power of the Holy Spirit. For this reason we are unashamedly
Catholic, and faith-full members of the Church. We are a small part of the vast army of Church
agencies working throughout the world inspired by the Spirit of Jesus.
