ANOTHER GOSPEL
Apostle Paul confronted the Galatians believers regarding another gospel. The ‘another gospel’ is a distorted version of the Christian message that was being taught in the Galatian churches. We see that this false gospel, promoted by certain individuals , emphasized the necessity of adherence to Jewish laws, particularly circumcision, for salvation. Paul argues that this addition to the true gospel , which is based on faith in Christ. is a perversion of the gospel of grace and a denial of the sufficiency of Christ sacrifice.
The True Gospel
We that Paul preached the gospel of salvation through faith in Christ, its emphasis God’s grace, not human works , justifies believers
The False Gospel
The “another gospel” that Paul confronts in Galatians taught that Gentiles needed to be circumcised and follow Jewish law to be truly saved.
Commentary
Paul was surprised to see that switch of the gospels and told the Galatians that such people be accused of preaching another gospel may it be from angels and others apart from the true Gospel that was preached to them earlier. This was his pastoral care and apologetic task as an Apostle of Christ.
Like the days of Paul even today we have many distorted versions of the gospel being preached today. The Sufficiency of what Christ did for us and Supremacy of Christ is no longer being preached today. It simply means, the message of repentance, forgiveness, salvation, death, resurrection and imminent return of Christ preaching are missing today.
The Old Testament is Christ concealed, and New Testament is Christ revealed. The heartbeat of the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation is Christ. John 5:39, Jesus said, All Scriptures talks about me and Luke 24:44 Jesus said what was written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalm speaks about me. Christ is the fulfilled of all the types, shadows, patterns and figures in the Old Testament.
It is very sad that the 21st Century church is even embracing ideologies that are justified through the Scriptures and are taking center stage in our preaching. The true gospel is on the peripheries while materialism, covetousness, self-gratification, desire for power and success techniques are becoming hot topics in the churches. May God give us grace and understanding to discern our motives and turn back to the teaching of the true gospel. Management techniques, success formula and motivation talks to gratify our flesh instead of our spirit man cannot bring change in the life of a person. In Matthew 4:4, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word (Rhema/True Gospel) that proceeds out of the mouth of God. The true God is about Christ and not about us.
The true Gospel is the power of God that transforms human hearts and minds, and they become new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) . When the truth of God enters human hearts and minds, transformation is inevitable. When we believe in Christ through the gospel we are made righteous and confession made unto salvation ( Romans 10:10).
In Psalm 119:130, says the entrance of your Word (true gospel) brings light or knowledge and gives understanding. The true gospel, according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, says that All Scriptures is God breathed and profitable for teachings (doctrines), for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness , that the man of God (believers) may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. In Ephesians 4: 11-13, the fivefold ministry is to equip the church (believers), for the work of ministry, for the edifying body of Christ. Till we have come to the unity of faith and of the knowledge of Son of God, to a perfect (mature) man and to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Christlikeness) . Finally, in Matthew 28: 18-20, Christ commanded the disciples to go into the world and preach and teach the Gospel.
