AN APPEAL TO ALL LEADERS, PUBLIC SERVANTS, MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT, BUSINESSMEN, COUNCILLORS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND TRIBAL WARRIORS IN ENGA PROVINCE

I would like to sincerely acknowledge and commend all the tribes and individuals in Enga Province who have already surrendered their fi****ms to the police. Your decision is a wise and courageous step towards restoring peace, unity, and stability in our communities. You have shown true leadership and responsibility by choosing peace over violence, and I encourage you all to stand firmly by your decision to uphold peace at all times in your respective communities.

I also wish to acknowledge the tremendous effort and initiative taken by Hon. John Pundari MP, the Police Minister, for spearheading the gun surrender program in Enga Province. This initiative is timely and necessary, especially at a time when our province and our nation need peace more than ever before.

However, while appreciating the effort already made, I respectfully challenge the Minister and the government authorities to ensure that the gun surrender program is properly coordinated, carefully planned, and fairly implemented across the entire province. The exercise must not target or involve only a selected few tribes while others continue to possess illegal fi****ms. Every tribe, every community, and every individual in possession of guns in Enga must be encouraged, and where necessary, compelled to surrender their fi****ms for the greater good of the province.

As the 2027 National General Election draws near, it is critically important that the gun surrender program be fast-tracked and expanded to cover every district, every village, and every tribe throughout Enga Province. The people of Enga deserve to experience a peaceful, fair, and violence-free election in 2027.

For too long, guns have caused fear, destruction, loss of innocent lives, and instability in our communities. Development cannot flourish where violence exists. Businesses cannot prosper where people live in fear. Our children cannot have a better future when communities are divided by armed conflict.

Therefore, I appeal to all leaders, public servants, businessmen, councillors, tribal leaders, and warriors who still possess fi****ms to take this opportunity seriously and voluntarily surrender your guns to the police. Let us work together to sweep our communities clean of illegal fi****ms once and for all.

Peace begins with each one of us. Let us choose peace, unity, and progress for Enga Province and for future generations.

Congratulations on Your Installation, Most Rev. Bp. Justin Ain Soongie

Dear Bishop Justin Ain Soongie,

On behalf of the Enga Catholic Professionals and Enga Catholic Students in the National Capital District and throughout Papua New Guinea, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on your official installation as the 3rd Bishop of Wabag Diocese. We rejoiced when you were solemnly installed on Thursday, 21st August 2025, at 10:00 am in the Good Shepherd Cathedral in Sangurap-Wabag.

Your installation Mass, celebrated by Most Rev. Archbishop Clement Papa with His Eminence Cardinal Sir John Ribat, MSC, as co-celebrant, was a beautiful testimony to your call to serve God’s people in Enga Province and beyond. We give thanks for the deep faith, pastoral wisdom, and commitment you bring to this new ministry.

As you begin this chapter of shepherding the flock of Wabag, we celebrate:

1. Your vision for strengthening parish life, fostering vocations, and deepening prayer across every community in the Diocese.

2. Your dedication to service, which reflects the compassion of Christ the Good Shepherd.

3. Your promise to walk alongside priests, religious, and lay faithful in building vibrant, welcoming, and faith-filled parishes.

Some of us may not be joining you today and in the Thanksgiving Mass on Friday, 22nd August at 10:00 am in Sangurap but our spirits are rejoicing with you. It will be a blessed opportunity to offer our prayers of gratitude for your ministry and to pledge our support in prayer, talent, and resources for the mission ahead.

In this joyful season, please know that the Enga Catholic Professionals pledge to collaborate with your pastoral team on initiatives in education, health, and social outreach. Likewise, our Enga Catholic Students stand ready to serve in youth ministry, catechesis, and evangelization efforts across the Diocese. Together, we will strive to live out our faith, share the Gospel, and build communities rooted in love, justice, and peace.

May the Holy Spirit guide and empower you in every decision and pastoral plan. May Our Lady, Mother of the Church, intercede constantly for you. And may the Good Shepherd continue to lead you with gentleness, courage, and profound love for all God’s people.

Once again, congratulations on your installation as Bishop of Wabag. We assure you of our prayers and our joyful cooperation as we walk together in faith.

With every good wish in Christ,
