Mark 9: 2, Matthew 27:1 - The Transfiguration of Jesus at Mount Hermon
1.Crafting out wisdom from God's magnificant words of life.
Every story that Jesus became the main character has some level of degree that needs careful interpretation by a preacher for hearers to ensure they appropriately apply it in their lives. It is a source of strength and drives human life toward perfect living. The compact bible dictionary reveals that Hermon was the mountain of 9200 feet above the mediterranean sea that shares the border between Jerusalem and Palestine with few peaks. In one of these peaks, the transfiguration of Jesus took place. Jesus, Peter, John and James climbed up the mountain about 9200 feet high compared to Mt. Giluwe, the second highest mountain in PNG with only 3 000 plus feet above sea level.
To Jesus, no sin is higher than the mountain and deeper than the ocean. However, it is difficult to climb God for he is higher than the mountain and deeper than the ocean. But with Jesus one can climb up to the top where God's glory and splendor is. Similarly, very deep and high is God's words where it requires us to think deep and high to craft out wisdom from these words.
2. Top disciple class rejoice with God's glory on earth.
Jesus selected the three disciples, Peter, John and James out of twelve for the journey to the top of Mt. Hermon. The reason for their selection to accompany Jesus is not made known in the bible. Each of the disciples may be had something in common that convinced Jesus to select them to go with him. Peter was the disciple whom Jesus declared to build a house upon him. He was crucified upside down. His death brought glory to God .James was the author of epistle which bears his name. He appears to occupy the head of the church in Jerusalem. John was the brother of James the son of Zebedee who was deeply influenced by the teachings of John the Baptist in the wilderness. James was the brother of John and son of Zebedee who was very bold and energetic fisherman. He was called boanerges which means son of thunder. He was the first martyr (One who bears witness of the truth, and suffers death in the cause of Christ) among the apostle and believed to be beheaded by King Herod Agrippa. Those who are of the top disciple class are chosen to see his transfiguration and incredible mind blowing secrets. They are chosen out of something in common that would cause them to bring glory to God in the future. God saw their past legacies, know their preparedness and what they bear in the present and how they would bring gory to him. Their spiritual boldness, energy, courage and firmness are reflective features of their ministries that outplay the pleasures of the body. Not many from this disciple class are seen in all the Christian communities only the few stand to rise up in the highest spiritual status and untilizing their potentials there for God's manifestation of the glory and power for the benefit of entire people.
3.. Confirmation of Jesus as the light of the world (John 8:12), resurrection and life (John 11:25).
The great glory of Jesus covered the three disciples at the mountain which was the confirmation of Jesus as the great light. His words can heal, deliver evil spirits and give eternal life to those who believe in him. Psalm 50: 3, out of Zion the perfection of beauty God shines forth. God shares his glory with us through Jesus based on what he spoke through the cloud , "this is my begotten son listen to him". Everyone on earth despite of our iniquities are covered by the goodness of Jesus and only through him, we will rise from death and alive with him. Elijah and Moses were dead who appeared before the disciples and Jesus is the classical example of those who believe in Jesus and die would come back to life again. Those who died and we burry them have fallen asleep as Jesus declared in John 11:11, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Jesus further said in John 11:25, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
4. Great worshipers in the house of the Lord. Moses and Elijah were the great worshipers in the house of the Lord. Moses was the great and fearless leader in both spirit and physical. God allowed Moses to see his glory and deal with it. Israelites could see God's glory through Moses not like Jesus who led every human under the glory of God. Elijah was using double portion of God and demonstrated his great power as spiritual and prophetic leader of Israel. Jesus made it possible for every human to freely gain the double portion to demonstrate God's power in at any time, anywhere and everywhere. Jesus is not Elijah nor Moses as many believed. They were the great worshipers in the house of the Lord which is Jesus. But we are the real temple of the Spirit of God, 1 Cor 3:16. We are equal to Moses and Elijah, the great worshipers in the house of the Lord which is Jesus.
