EULOGY FOR PAPA PS SIURA RAEPE
Greetings and God's peace be with us in such time of sorrow and great loss.
Good afternoon, respected leaders, pastors, immediate family members, church families, Fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. I stand here today representing the Lutheran Renewal Church of PNG – National Church.
We have lost the very foundation of Lutheran Renewal — a beacon of hope, a leader raised in his prime, and a patriot with the zeal and confidence to break through the time of Lutheran dominion. His prayers were like a canopy over us. He was a man of unwavering faith.
At the appointed time, God called His faithful servant home. On *17th April 2026 at 3:00 pm at Angau General Hospital, Lae*, Papa Ps Siura Raepe answered that call and went to be with the Lord. His departure has left us broken, as if a part of our own body has been cut away. A chief member of our family has gone, and our hearts are heavy with grief. Yet we take comfort in God’s word: _“All things work together for the good of those who love Him.”_ The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Unlike other churches whose founders came from overseas, Lutheran Renewal is homegrown. The church spread across PNG like mushrooms after the rain, and God used faithful servants to establish it. We are privileged and honoured to have had such founding fathers. I personally had the privilege to see them, speak with them, and walk alongside them — fathers who gave me the strength to carry the fire for Jesus.
Papa Siura did not only pioneer this movement; he nurtured it, he fanned the flame, and became the agent of fire. He was truly the father of Lutheran Renewal. Just as God found favour with Mary in Jesus’ time, so the Holy Spirit found favour with fathers late like Papa Yuan Brooken, Rev. Henoma Ttopogoqo, Mama Ka, now late Papa Ps Siura Raepe, and few to name.
Papa Siura became the bridge that carried us to the other side
