Gorakhpur Railway Station to have longest platform in Asia...............

Gorakhpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh is all set to create a record of having the longest platform in Asia after Kharagpur.

North Eastern Railways General Manager U C Dwadash Shreni, said here today that a platform of the Gorakhpur railway station would be developed as the longest one in Asia. The platform would be 1.378 km long.

So far, Kharagpur had the longest platform stretching upto 1.072 km. Moreover, the Gorakhpur railway station would be developed with the construction of escalators, cab-way and pedestrian overbridge, Mr Shreni informed. Other facilities to ease passengers' inconveninence would also be implemented.

He said a cab-way would also be constructed on Lucknow railway station for the convenience of the passengers.
Aurihar and Jaunpur station would be connected to other stations of the country through broad gage.

Mr Shreni added that solar panel system would be installed at the stations to save the railway's revenue.

To save power, the railways have also decided to introduce a system as per which 70 per cent of the lights on a platform would switch off on train's departure from the platform automatically.

The unique system would be implemented in few stations of the state by the end of 2010.
