Today marks three years since The Brave Truth Australia & New Zealand Hotline opened and received our first phone call from a survivor. From the beginning, our purpose has been to give survivors of child sexual abuse and sexual abuse a voice, and to do what we can to shine a light on the evil that’s been happening for decades.
On 1 July 2023, the overseers issued a letter outlining their intentions, including a commitment to “zero tolerance for the harming of children, young people or anyone within our fellowship” and stated “There is no place for people who have harmed children in our meetings or at convention”. As of today, NZ, NSW & ACT, VIC & TAS, SA & NT, and QLD have each released some form of Child Safe Policy. Unfortunately, to date, Western Australia has not released a Child Safe Policy publicly.
It is now clear, through the current Child Safe Policies, that their original commitment to “zero tolerance” has been removed. With hundreds of phone calls from victim/survivors, and over 210 perpetrators reported to the Hotline, “zero tolerance” should be the only option.
Over these three years, it has been a privilege to connect with so many survivors — to support police reporting, to listen to your stories, and above all - to ensure you were heard and believed.
There are several ways you can connect with us!
