It is known to all that the great master of our generation, the Third Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche, Kyabje Mipham Namgyel Gyatso Tsojung Gyepei Dorje, has displayed the passing into nirvana. Through this act, Rinpoche inspires even those holding fixed views to turn their minds toward the Dharma.

At this solemn time, the community of Tharpa Choeling Nunnery and Vikramashila Monastic College in Kathmandu, under the guidance of our spiritual head, Shangpa Rinpoche, at the Kagyu Institute for Buddhist Studies in Kirtipur, Nepal, with unwavering faith and devotion, will conduct the Milarepa Guru Yoga and Ganachakra puja in honour of the precious Mipham Rinpoche on 26 Dec 2025.

We further extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the most precious heart-son, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Thaye Dorje, and his mother, Dechen Wangmo, together with the entire family, at this time of immeasurable loss.

Today 11 Nov 2025, we observe this sacred day of Lhabab Duchen, a day to commemorate the Buddha’s decent from Tush*ta Heaven after he taught his mother and celestial beings, returning to earth out of His compassion for all sentient being.

On this auspicious day, the effects of positive and negative actions are multiplied millions of times. In observance, retreatants at KIBS are undertaking the final set of Nyungne practice, engaging in prayers, silence and complete fast. We also gathered to offer prayers and aspirations, dedicating our merits for the swift rebirth of our revered late Maniwa Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche.

By these merits too, may the all the noble aspirations of the retreatants as well as the generous sponsors, be fulfilled and be a cause of their enlightenment. May all beings be benefitted.

Our Nyungne retreat at KIBS has begun under great blessing and profound inspiration. Before the official commencement, our precious Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche graciously offered an impromptu teaching on Nyungne – its history, practice and benefits. His words were a heartfelt reminder of compassion, mindfulness and the true purpose of our practice.

Led by Venerable Tseyang Rinpoche and the Tharpa Choeling Anis, the retreat now unfolds in an atmosphere of deep devotion and gratitude. May the coming retreat days of silence, fasting and reflection becomes a source of merits, purification and cause of enlightenment for the retreatants, all those who have generously and sincerely contributed to the retreat’s meals and activities as well as all sentient beings.

We dedicate the immeasurable merits of our Nyungne practice and acts of generosity to our dearest, late Maniwa Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. May. His noble wishes and aspirations be swiftly and fully accomplished. May we realise the inseparability of the Guru’s enlightened mind and our own.

When courses are not in session, KIBS remains open to guests, pilgrims and individuals seeking space for private retreat. We welcome those looking for quiet reflection and spiritual renewal. Groups may also, by prior request, arrange to receive short teachings and introductory meditation sessions during their stay.

We have also attached some photos of recent groups who have visited, to offer a glimpse of the environment and activities at KIBS.

The proceeds from short stays contribute directly to the ongoing maintenance of KIBS and the running of the nunnery.
