🇬🇧 My Neighbor Totoro is a beautiful film about the power of imagination. During my introduction at Nijmegen and the discussion afterward with , I was reminded once again how remarkable this work by Hayao Miyazaki truly is.
The film fits perfectly with this year’s theme of Novio Magica: “In the beginning, there was imagination.” Totoro shows how imagination helps us make sense of the world and find our place in it.
As children, fantasy comes naturally; later in life, we have to choose to keep it alive. Festivals like help us do that!

🇳🇱 My Neighbor Totoro is een prachtige film over de kracht van verbeelding. Tijdens mijn inleiding bij en de nabespreking met besefte ik opnieuw hoe bijzonder dit werk van Hayao Miyazaki is.
De film sluit naadloos aan bij het motto van Novio Magica dit jaar: “In the beginning, there was imagination.” Totoro laat zien hoe verbeelding ons helpt de wereld te begrijpen en er onze plek in te vinden.
Als kind is fantasie vanzelfsprekend; als we ouder worden moeten we er meer bewust ruimte voor maken. Festivals als helpen daar bij.
