The Gauge: Finding Balance by Living Islam, Iman, and Ihsan
----------------

Islam functions as a communal shield. At its foundational level, the faith necessitates immersion in a Muslim community to provide essential support, motivation, and a shared sense of purpose. This environment serves as a constant reminder of the pillars of practice, the call to prayer, daily Salat, fasting, and the giving of Zakat.

Progressing to the level of Iman (faith), one learns to fortify themselves against the tribulations of atheism, materialism, and skepticism. Here, the Ash’ari theological tradition offers a robust framework to navigate and find security within our complex, ever-changing world; this creed serves as personal armor, even for those living outside a Muslim enclave.

The final stage, Ihsan (spiritual excellence) or Tasawwuf, represents divine protection. At this third tier of religion, one's servanthood aligns perfectly with the Divine, culminating in a perfected soul. At this station, a person walks unperturbed through distraction and the very haunts of Shaytan, secure in the absolute sovereignty of Allah. It is the state where one acts with the hands of God, speaks with His speech, and walks in His direction, living the breath of the Ever-Living while still on earth. Know your spiritual station, and choose your dwelling place wisely in this world of deception and chaos.

MURAQABA - ( A MUST ADOPTED )
-------------------
Social media has severely eroded our attention spans. It hasn’t just shortened how long we can focus, it has actively weakened our capacity for patience and deep concentration. The rise of skit culture, in particular, makes it harder than ever to grasp the deeper meaning or reality behind the content we consume. We’ve shifted from being people who once absorbed every word of a speech or text, to those who struggle to sit through a ten-minute video. Naturally, if we can’t handle ten minutes of visual content, reading a ten-page book feels nearly impossible.

Today, the unspoken rule is clear: if you can’t deliver your message in under three minutes or fit it into a few punchy lines, it’s likely to be ignored. This growing impatience, this reluctance to invest time in our own education, lies at the root of many of our current issues. Our collective ability to concentrate is fading, and what we now prioritize is entertainment over substance. Even when information is vital, it must be dressed up as amusement to hold our attention.

The very culture designed to be lighthearted and funny, short skits and quick clips, has ended up confusing and disorienting this generation. We’ve reached a point where people rely on AI to generate content, watch a three-minute video, and then make life-altering decisions based on that sliver of information. The long-term cost of such habits is staggering.

Perhaps the most essential skill we need to cultivate now is not speed or efficiency, but the old-fashioned ability to listen, truly listen, and to endure the discomfort of sitting with long-form content, whether spoken or written. Rebuilding patience, focus, and the willingness to engage deeply may be our best defense against the chaos of the short-form era.

The beauty of religion is undeniable, and the love of God is truly invaluable. When selecting a religious teacher, choose someone whose character has been shaped and softened by the Qur’an and Sunnah. However, remember that most believers are still growing in their faith.

Anyone who believes in God is a lover of God, despite their flaws. So, show more compassion and patience toward those struggling with imperfection. Even those who have strayed from the right path often possess a genuine love for God deep within.

"It is out of Allah’s mercy that you ˹O Prophet˺ have been lenient with them. Had you been cruel or hard-hearted, they would have certainly abandoned you. So pardon them, ask Allah’s forgiveness for them, and consult with them in ˹conducting˺ matters. Once you make a decision, put your trust in Allah. Surely Allah loves those who trust in Him."
~ Qur'an 3:159

Rābi'a al-'Adawiyya said in one of her famous supplications:

This language of love is usually lost upon the ones who go through life treating their relationships as balance sheets with assets and liabilities. Meanwhile they forget the verses praising those who seek the highest calling:

ومن أحسن دينا ممن أسلم وجهه لله وهو محسن

And who has a better religion than one who submits themselves entirely to God while doing good? (An-Nisa' 4:125)

ولا تطرد الذين يدعون ربهم بالغدوة والعشي يريدون وجهه

And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, they desire only His favour. (Al-Anaam 6:52)

واصبر نفسك مع الذين يدعون ربهم بالغدوة والعشي يريدن وجهه

And withhold yourself with those who call on their Lord morning and evening desiring His goodwill. (Al-Kahf 18:28)

ومن يسلم وجهه إلى الله وهو محسن فقد استمسك بالعروة الوثقى

And whoever submits themselves wholly to God while doing excellent work has indeed taken hold of the firmest thing upon which one can lay hold
