In an age where social media, technology, personal branding and digital culture increasingly shape how young people think, communicate and live, what does it mean to be a Catholic medical student?

VIGIL MASS HELD IN HONOUR OF LATE REV. FR. EVARISTUS IBEBUIKE OFFOR IN NGWO

A Vigil Mass in honour of the late Rev. Fr. Evaristus Ibebuike Offor was held today at St. Joseph Parish, Ubaji, Ngwo, as part of activities marking his final rites.

The Vigil Mass followed the Funeral Mass celebrated earlier at Holy Family Parish, Umabi, where family members, parishioners, priests, friends and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to the late priest and commend his soul to God.

The remains of Rev. Fr. Evaristus Ibebuike Offor will be laid to rest on Friday, August 28, 2026, following a Burial Mass and Interment at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.

The funeral ceremonies have provided an opportunity for the Catholic faithful and loved ones to celebrate the life, priestly ministry and enduring legacy of the late Rev. Fr. Offor.

As the Church and his loved ones prepare to bid him a final farewell, prayers continue to be offered for the repose of his soul.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Enugu Diocese holds month's mind for Late Msgr. Anthony Okafor
--------
The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has held a one-month memorial Mass in honour of the late Rev. Msgr. Anthony Okafor, who died at the age of 78.

The Eucharistic celebration, held on Monday, August 24, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Awkunanaw, Enugu, brought together priests, religious, members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), parishioners and other members of the Catholic faithful to pray for the repose of the soul of the late Monsignor and celebrate his life and priestly ministry.

The Mass was celebrated by the Diocesan Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, who represented the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Charles Obodo reflected on the Christian understanding of life, death and the hope of eternal life. He reminded the faithful that earthly existence is temporary and urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith, love and service while looking forward to the promise of eternal life.

Fr. Obodo called on the faithful to continue praying for the late Monsignor and to draw inspiration from his commitment to God, the Church and the people he served.

He stressed that one of the most meaningful ways of honouring the memory of a departed priest is by continuing the good works and values for which the priest was known, particularly faith, charity, unity and service to others.

The memorial celebration also featured tributes from members of the Catholic Women Organisation , who honoured the late Monsignor through group presentations and expressions of solidarity.

In his remarks, Very Rev. Fr. Agubuchie expressed appreciation to Bishop Callistus Onaga for the opportunity to represent him at the celebration. He also thanked the priests, CWO members, parishioners and other faithful who came together to participate in the memorial Mass and commended all those who contributed to the success of the occasion.

The programme continued with a reception after the Mass.

The one-month memorial celebration offered the Catholic faithful an opportunity not only to pray for the repose of the soul of the late Msgr. Anthony Okafor, but also to give thanks to God for his life, priestly vocation and years of service to the Church and humanity.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
