*Service to Allah, Shaykh, and Creation in the Tijaniyyah*
_What Shaykh Ahmad Tijani RA & Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse RA said_

*1. WHAT SHAYKH AHMAD AL-TIJANI RA SAID*
_From Jawahir al-Ma‘ani, Kitab al-Minhaj, Ifadat Ahmad_

*SHAYKH TIJANI’S 5 PRINCIPLES OF KHIDMAH:*

1. *"Khidmah is the Door to Wilayat"*
*Arabic:* _"الْخِدْمَةُ بَابُ الْوِلَايَةِ"_
*Transliteration:* _"Al-khidmatu babu al-wilayah"_
*Meaning:* _"Service is the door to Sainthood."_
Shaykh Tijani: _“Whoever serves the Awliya, the Fuqara, and the ‘Ulama, Allah will raise him.”_

2. *"3 Types of Khidmah"*
*1. Khidmatullah* → Service to Allah: _‘Ibadah, Wird, Lazim_
*2. Khidmatush-Shaykh* → Service to the Shaykh: Obedience, adab, carrying out his orders
*3. Khidmatul-Ikhwan* → Service to the brothers: Feeding, helping, covering faults
_“The one who perfects these 3 has perfected the Tariqah.”_

3. *"Khidmah Erases Nafs"*
_“Man khadama ikhwanahu saqa Allahu nafsahu”_
_“Whoever serves his brothers, Allah waters / kills his nafs.”_
_“Pride cannot live in a heart that serves.”_

4. *"The Adab of Khidmah"*
_“Serve without expecting return. Serve without being asked.
And hide your khidmah like you hide your sin.”_
_“If you mention your service, the reward flies away.”_

5. *"Khidmah to the Shaykh"*
_“Al-murid ma‘a shaykhihi kal-mayyiti ma‘a ghassilih”_
_“The murid with his shaykh is like a dead body with the washer.”_
_“Don’t say why. Just do. That is taslim.”_

2. WHAT SHAYKH IBRAHIM NIASSE RA - BAYE - SAID*
Baye made Khidmah the foundation of his entire da‘wah.

BAYE’S 7 LAWS OF KHIDMAH:*

1. *"Khidmah is Bigger than Wird"*
*Arabic:* _"خِدْمَةُ الْإِخْوَانِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ مِائَةِ رَكْعَةٍ"_
*Transliteration:* _“Khidmatul-ikhwani afdalu min mi’ati rak‘ah”_
*Meaning:* _“Serving the brothers is better than 100 rak‘ahs.”_
Baye: _“Wird is for you. Khidmah is for others. Allah loves what is for others more.”_

2. *"The 4 Categories Baye Ordered Us to Serve"*
*1. Khidmatu Shaykh* → The Shaykh and his family
*2. Khidmatu ‘Ulama* → Scholars of Sunnah
*3. Khidmatu Fuqara* → The poor and students of Qur’an
*4. Khidmatu Da‘wah* → Spreading the Tariqah and Islam
_“Whoever serves these 4, I am his guarantor to Allah.”_

3. *"Khidmah in the Time of Qabd"*
Baye: _“When your heart is dry, don’t increase dhikr and sit.
Go and serve. Cook for the fuqara. Sweep the zawiya.
Khidmah brings fath faster than 1000 wirds.”_

4. *"Khidmah is the Proof of Love"*
_“Al-mahabbatu bila khidmah da‘wa batilah”_
_“Love without service is a false claim.”_
_“If you love Shaykh Tijani, serve his children.”_

5. *"The Hidden Khidmah"*
Baye: _“The best khidmah is the one no one sees.
Carrying water, washing plates, fixing the masjid at night.
That is what raises you in the eyes of Allah.”_

6. *"Khidmah Removes Hijab"*
_“Khidmah tuksiru al-hijaba baynaka wa bayna Shaykh at-Tijani”_
_“Service breaks the veil between you and Shaykh Tijani.”_
Baye saw in Kashf: _“The muqaddams who served were closest to him in Barzakh.”_

7. *"Baye’s Warning"*
_“O son: Don’t be a murid who only takes. Takes barakah, takes du‘a, takes knowledge.
Be a murid who gives.
The Tariqah is not a shop. It’s a house. And in a house everyone works.”_

BAYE’S STORY*
A murid came to Baye: _“Ya Baye, I do 5000 Salat al-Fatih daily but no fath.”_
Baye: _“Go feed 10 students for 40 days.”_
He did. On day 40 Baye said: _“Now you have fath. Because your heart softened with khidmah.”_

4. 5 PRACTICAL KHIDMAH FOR A TIJANI MURID TODAY*

1. *Khidmatuz-Zawiya* → Sweep, cook, host guests
2. *Khidmatul-‘Ilm* → Teach Qur’an, distribute books of Shaykh Tijani
3. *Khidmatul-Fuqara* → Feed, clothe, help orphans and students
4. *Khidmatul-Ikhwan* → Visit the sick, attend janazah, reconcile people
5. *Khidmatud-Da‘wah* → Invite to Salat al-Fatih, defend the Tariqah with adab

*Baye’s Dua:*
_“Allahummaj‘alna khuddaman li dinika wa li awliya’ika”_
_“O Allah make us servants of Your religion and Your Awliya”_

*Baye’s Final Line:*
_“O son: Allah does not ask you ‘How much dhikr did you do?’
He asks ‘Who did you serve for My sake?’”_

*"إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنْكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا"* 76:9
_“We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We want no reward nor thanks from you.”_

THE WILL OF SHAYKH IBRAHIM NIASSE RTA

Today is 26th of July, marking the 51st year of the transition of the Sahib al-Faydah, Maulana Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse RTA. Below is the Shaykh’s Will as recorded in the Ziyadat al-Jawahir compiled by Maulana Shaykh Ahmad Aliyu Abu al-Fath RTA.

“…If I die, and none remains except Allah the Exalted, then Allah is my Khalifa over my family. The dutiful son, the sincere servant, the learned scholar, the knower of Allah, Sayyidi ʿAlīyu Cīsse, shall take care of my family. He is the shaykh of my children and my companions, and my successor after Allah in their affairs.

I advice my children to be (united) as one hand: the younger should honor the elder, and the elder should have mercy on the younger. They should be with him (i.e ʿAlīyu Cīsse) as they were with me , rather, as they are with him now. He shall give them their due regard and consult them.

If they deem it fit to sell all my estate and my books, except for the manuscripts , that is permitted to them. And if they wish to keep them, I pray that Allah enriches them so that they will not need to sell them.

My father’s books shall remain an endowment (waqf) for his descendants, as he instructed , may Allah be pleased with him.

I should be buried behind the main mosque in a
place they choose. I bequeath that my right-hand
possessions, slaves and maidservants, be freed
for the sake of Allah. Those maidservants who shared my bed and bore me no children, they shall
be provided for from the estate like the divorced
women for they have no share in the property.

I instruct that attention be given to completing the
mosque, and that the leadership therein belongs to Sayyidi ʿAlīyu Cīsse and his son Ḥassan, then whomever Allah wills. The leadership of the Zāwiya of Kaolack shall belong to my children, those of them who reside there, and to the children of my brothers who are fit for deputation (niyāba) as determined by, Sayyidi ʿAlīyu Cīsse, and by my eldest son, al-Ḥājj ʿAbdullāh.

I advise you , and I advise myself, to fear Allah both in private and in public, to maintain the ties of kinship, and to preserve the Tijāni wird, for it is a treasure for the living and the dead.

May Allah guide us and you, and direct our steps and yours aright.
