OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL

AUTHOR : PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE.

DATE: THURSDAY, MARCH 19TH, 2026

TOPIC: GOD HATES HYPOCRISY

MEMORISE:
He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him. - (Job 13:16)

READ: Acts 5:1-11 (KJV)

1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things

MESSAGE:
In Mark 11:12-20, the Bible tells us about a fig tree that failed to produce fruit for Jesus to eat when He was hungry. Usually, when figs are in season, fig trees give a sign by producing many leaves, signalling that there are fruits on them. The fig tree in this passage, however, had leaves but no fruit - it was a show of hypocrisy. It is also a show of hypocrisy when a minister leads prayer or worship in church and puts up an impressive physical performance but hardly prays or worships in private. A preacher once said that some believers pretend to be very strong in the Lord when they have just failed Him.

In Job 8:13, the Bible says that the hope of hypocrites will perish. Today's memory verse also tells us that God doesn't want hypocrites in His presence - this is a serious warning to believers. Job 15:34 says that the congregation of hypocrites will be barren, and Job 20:5 says that the joy of a hypocrite will not last because it is for a moment. One of the passages in the Bible that challenged me as a young Christian is the story of Ananias and Sapphira, which is today's Bible reading. The couple sold a piece of land, kept a part of the money, lied to Peter about it, and this cost them their lives. I thought their punishment was harsh; the land and the money were theirs, after all. However, the issue was that Ananias and Sapphira attempted to deceive the church. God hates lies, and no liar will go to heaven (Revelation 21:8). As I studied the couple's story, I discovered that God punished them because they were hypocrites.

Many believers fall into the trap of hypocrisy when they fail to give accurate reports of things that are entrusted into their care. Even some pastors are known to inflate their church's attendance records, and when they are asked how the church is doing, they say, "Great". I believe that a fellow is not doing great until the person doubles what the Lord has placed in his or her hand, as we see in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30).

Beloved, when you pretend to be who you are not just because you want to look good in the eyes of the people around you, you are only deceiving yourself. Rather, seek God's face to help you to become who He wants you to be.

KEY POINT:
Hypocrisy attracts God's anger. Avoid it.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Judges 17-19

HYMNAL:
HYMN 31 - YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION

1. Yield not to temptation,
For yielding is sin;
Each victory will help you
Some other to win;
Fight manfully onward,
Dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus,
He'll carry you through.

CHORUS:
Ask the Saviour to help you
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

2. Shun evil companions,
Bad language disdain;
God's name hold in reverence,
Nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest,
Kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus,
He'll carry you through.

3. To him that o'ercometh,
God giveth a crown;
Thro' faith we will conquer,
Though often cast down;
He who is our Saviour,
Our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus,
He'll carry you through.

_*MEMORISE: Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
ECCLESIASTES 12:1*_

_*BIBLE READING: MARK 11:12-20*_
12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:

13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.

20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

_*MESSAGE:*_

Today’s Bible reading tells the story of how Jesus saw a fig tree from afar and approached it because He was hungry. On getting to the tree, He discovered that it had no fruit on it even though it had many leaves, and He cursed it.

One lesson we can learn from this story is that God expects every living thing to be productive; He created everything for His pleasure Revelation 4:11 and wants them to reveal His glory.

One detail that used to baffle me any time I read the passage in today’s Bible reading is that the time for figs had not yet come Mark 11:13. I used to think to myself, “If it wasn’t the season for figs, why did Jesus expect the fig tree to have fruit?” I later realised that, where the issue of time is concerned, God’s time is always the right time.

For instance, if God wakes you up at 3am or 4am, it is wrong to tell Him that it is too early for you to wake up. No matter how early the Sovereign God wakes you up, it means your day has begun – His time is always the right time.

In today’s memory verse, God instructs young people to remember Him while they are still in their youth. This means that the best time to serve God is when a person is young.

It is best for people to surrender their hearts and lives to God in the morning of their years because those who seek God early will always find Him Proverbs 8:17.

If you are a young person and you are reading this, Jesus wants your heart now; He wants you to bear fruits for His kingdom now that you’re still young.

He wants you to be fervent in spirit, serving Him Romans 12:11. Don’t squander your youth on the altar of sin or waste it by pursuing unimportant things; seek God early.

Do not be like the fig tree, which had nothing to offer Jesus when He came seeking fruit from it. God has commanded us to be fruitful and multiply Genesis 1:28; however, to be fruitful, you must cultivate a vibrant relationship with Him because you can do nothing without Him John 15:4.

Beloved, I plead with you to remember your Creator in the days of your youth. Even if you are no longer a youth, dedicate the rest of your life to serving Him, and He will beautify your life with His glory.

_*KEY POINT:*_
Remember your Creator now.

_*HYMN 7: I AM THINE, O LORD*_
1 I am Thine O Lord
I have heard Thy voice
And it told Thy love to me
But I long to rise
In the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee

_REFRAIN:_
Draw me nearer,
Nearer, blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died
Draw me nearer,
Nearer, blessed Lord
To Thy precious, bleeding side

2 Consecrate me now
To Thy service, Lord
By the pow'r of grace divine
Let my soul look up
With a steadfast hope
And my will be lost in Thine

3 Oh, the pure delight
Of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend
When I kneel in prayer,
And with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend

4 There are depths of love That I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea
There are heights of joy
That I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

‎Topic:- Kingdom Matters
‎📖 Matthew 6:10 (KJV)
‎“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
‎When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, one powerful statement He included was:
‎“Your kingdom come.”
‎This prayer was not just about words to repeat. Jesus was teaching believers something deeper that God's Kingdom must be revealed on earth through our lives.
‎But before we go further, let us understand something simple.
‎What is Kingdom?
‎A kingdom is a territory where a king rules and his authority is obeyed. Wherever the will of the king is carried out, that place becomes his kingdom.
‎Let your kingdom come, He meant that God’s rule, God’s principles, and God’s will should be visible here on earth.
‎Kingdom Matters for Believers
‎As children of God, we are not just church members.
‎We are representatives of God’s Kingdom on earth.
‎The Bible reminds us:
‎— Philippians 3:20
‎“For our conversation is in heaven…”

‎That means we may live on earth, but we belong to another Kingdom, the Kingdom of God.
‎Our lifestyle, decisions, character, and values should reflect the rule of our King, Jesus Christ.
‎Unfortunately, many youths today are slowly drifting away from Kingdom principles.
‎Instead of influencing the world, the world is influencing them.
‎Social media has become one of the strongest influences today. While technology itself is not evil, the content dominating many platforms today on social media is mostly worldly.
‎What trends most times are:
‎immoral entertainment
‎sexualized content
‎nudity
‎unhealthy relationships
‎empty pleasures
‎Some studies even show that a large percentage of trending online content revolves around pleasure-driven and worldly lifestyles.
‎Because of this, many young people now spend more time scrolling social media than seeking God.
‎This is the opposite of what Jesus prayed for.
‎Let the Kingdom Come Through Us
‎When Jesus said “Your kingdom come,” He was calling believers to bring God’s influence into every area of life.
‎The Kingdom should not only exist in churches but, It should influence:
‎our economy (honesty in business)
‎technology (using innovation for good)
‎education (truth and wisdom)
‎politics (justice and integrity)
‎entertainment (clean and meaningful creativity)
‎social living (love and respect for others)
‎The earth should gradually be filled with God’s values through God’s people.
‎This is how the Kingdom spreads.
‎Kingdom Should Be Our Concern
‎Jesus made the priority clear in Matthew 6:33
‎“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…”
‎The Kingdom should be our first concern, not the last.
‎If believers truly live by Kingdom principles:
‎corruption will reduce
‎families will be stronger
‎communities will be healthier
‎society will experience true transformation
‎Because wherever God’s rule is respected, life becomes better.
‎conclusion:
‎The prayer “Your kingdom come” is not just something we say.
‎It is something we live out daily.
‎As children of God, we are carriers of God's Kingdom values everywhere we go.
‎Let us begin to populate the earth with God’s Kingdom through our lifestyle, choices, and influence.
‎Because the world may follow trends —
‎but Kingdom people follow the King.

_*TOPIC: SIN IS A REPROACH 1*_

_*MEMORISE:*_
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - (Romans 6:23)

_*BIBLE READING: JOHN 5:1-15 (KJV)*_
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made wholè

7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

_*MESSAGE:*_

In today's Bible reading, Jesus healed a man who had been sick for 38 years. Shortly after that, He found him in the temple and warned him to stay away from sin or a worse illness would afflict him. Jesus' warning shows us that a fellow's sin can attract reproach and bring the fellow under the influence of the forces of darkness. If a person sins and does not repent, today's memory verse tells us that such a fellow will be paid for committing that sin, and that payment is death.

In Mark 2:1-12, the Bible tells us about a paralysed man who was brought to Jesus. It took four men to carry him on his sick bed to the house Jesus was preaching in, and because the house was so full that there was no space to pass through at the entrance, the men who carried him had to break through the roof to lower him into the house. When Jesus saw him, He knew the man needed a miracle, and the first thing He said was, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee." In other words, Jesus was saying, "Unless we get your sins out of the way, you won't get the miracle you need."

Sin always hinders people from receiving their miracles, and there is always a need to take the sins that have blocked their access to God's blessings away so that the path to their miracles can be opened. The paralysed man's sins landed him in a mess, but when he came in contact with light, it destroyed the mess. When a person comes in contact with light, it destroys every form of darkness in his or her life. If there is any reproach in your life that was caused by your sin, as you ask God for forgiveness today and promise not to return to it, I decree that the Lord will send His light into your life to take away the reproach, in Jesus' name.

Beloved, sin is always a reproach; it brings shame and death. Righteousness, however, attracts God's upliftment (Proverbs 14:34). To receive God's promotion, you must confess and repent of any sins that might exist in your life. Jesus is willing to give you a brand-new start when you turn to Him. Don't let your sins keep you from enjoying God's help; confess them and repent of them today, and your heavenly Father will remove everything that represents a reproach in your life (1 John 1:9).

_*KEY POINT:*_
Sin can stop God's light from shining upon you and His blessings from flowing into your life.

27 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

28 And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord.

29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.

30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

_*MESSAGE*_

A 33-year-old married woman once came to me for prayers. Her problem was that she was still bedwetting, and it was causing her terrible embarrassment. I told her that it wasn't a problem and that God would give her a brand-new bladder. However, before I prayed, she said, "Sir, I'm not the only one suffering from this in my family." She proceeded to tell me that her mother, grandmother, and all the women in her family were bedwetters. Immediately, I knew that her problem was generational.

On probing further, I discovered that the problem started when her grandmother had an issue with someone who pronounced a curse on her, saying, "Henceforth, every woman in your family will bed-wet." I told her, "Give your life to Jesus Christ, and you will leave that bloodline and become a new creature." She gave her life to Jesus and returned the following day, radiating with joy.

This time, she didn't come alone; she had other women in her family with her. She told me that for the first time in as far back as she could remember, she slept all through the night without bedwetting. The other women who came with her all surrendered their lives to Jesus, and that was the end of the curse. I have good news for you: if a curse has been affecting your family for generations, it is terminated today, in Jesus' name.

When people come into God's family, He makes everything new in their lives (2 Corinthians 5:17), and they become partakers of generational blessings. Anything that had previously hindered and limited such people in their lineages will no longer have any power over them because they have come into a new family, God's family. In this divine family, there is life, prosperity, wisdom, fruitfulness, joy, peace, and every other good thing. Abundant life is the inheritance of everyone who is in God's family, and in areas where they may have suffered from the sins of their earthly ancestors, God promises to visit them with His unfailing and sure mercies (Exodus 20:6).

In God, the proverb that the fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge no longer holds (Jeremiah 31:29-30). When a fellow comes into Christ, he or she becomes a partaker of God's divine nature, and abundant blessings become part of the fellow's daily life -this is the heritage of every believer. Beloved, are you a part of God's family?

_*REFLECTION*_
Are you abiding in God's family and enjoying His blessings?

_*HYMN 10 - IN CHRIST ALONE*_
1 In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

2 In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

3 There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

4 No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

_*DATE: SATURDAY FEBRUARY 28TH 2026*_

*THEME: GOD'S RIGHT HAND*

*MEMORISE:*
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:6

*BIBLE READING: PSALM 110:1-3*
1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

2 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

*MESSAGE:*

The phrase 'right hand' bears great significance in the Bible. It portrays a position of privilege - a place of honour and status. For example, our Lord Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of the Father (Hebrews 1:3). Hebrews 12:2 also reveals that after Jesus suffered and died on the cross, He sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. The right hand of God represents His ultimate strength and power.

Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. (1 Peter 3:22)

The person being referred to in the Scripture above is Jesus. He is the One on the right hand of God with all powers in subjection to Him. No matter the earthly position a fellow occupies, there is more power and authority at the right hand of God. God's right hand is the place where all angels, authorities, and powers submit to Him. Psalm 18:35 also reveals that the right hand of God is the place of sustenance and help. Today's memory verse tells us that as God's children, we are seated together with Christ, and since He is at God's right hand, we are also there with Him.

Being at the right hand of God means that you will never lack help and provision. It means that you will always find the timely and abundant help you need. Those who are at God's right hand are never small because His right hand is the place of power, as we see in Mark 14:62, which says: "And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." This means that, as Christians, we are a people of power and influence. We enjoy help, sustenance, and favour from God. Unfortunately, however, while this is our identity as God's children, some believers are living far away from this reality because, like the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32, they have wandered far away from the Father's right hand. They have heeded the call of sin and frustrated God's grace upon their lives.

Beloved, if you have not surrendered to God, or if you have wandered away from Him, I invite you today to come unto Him. He is knocking at the door of your heart (Revelation 3:20); open it up to Him. He is waiting for you earnestly with open arms; don't keep Him waiting.

*REFLECTION:*
Are you occupying your place at God's right hand?

_*TOPIC: HE PROVIDES AHEAD OF YOUR NEEDS*_

_*MEMORISE*_
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. - (Psalm 147:5)

_*BIBLE READING: 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 (KJV)*_
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

12 Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

_*MESSAGE*_

God is all-powerful; His power is not seen only in His mighty works but also in how He sometimes mercifully provides the help we need before we even realise we need help.

Years ago, when Redemption City was still more than 95 percent covered with trees and bushes, I went for a walk one night as I usually do. Then, I loved to walk on the footpaths of the bushes to pray so that nobody would disturb me. That night, I was going about praying and enjoying myself because I was alone with God when He suddenly told me to stop.

I stopped, and when I looked at the ground, I realised that something unusual was right across my path. The object looked like a log of wood, and I thought that some people had come into the bush, cut some trees down, and didn't carry all the logs with them.

However, it suddenly looked as if the log of wood was moving. When I looked more closely, I realised it was a huge python. Immediately the python saw that I had seen it, it raised its head to attack me. Of course, now that I had already seen it, I moved back a bit, and as I turned to look towards my right, I saw a big rock.

The rock had already been positioned there by God, and I used it to kill the python. God mercifully provided that big rock in that position even before I went through that path that night. I pray that the Almighty God will supply all the help you need before you even realise you need it, in Jesus' name.

Before Samson was attacked by over 1,000 Philistines in Judges 15:14-15, God prepared the jawbone of an ass and placed it in a place where his hand could easily reach it. In Numbers 20:1-11, before the Israelites got to the desert, He had provided the rock from which they would get water.

Beloved, God has already provided the solution to every problem you can ever encounter. He is too merciful to let you get to a stage where there will be no solution to the challenges you face. If you are currently burdened by a problem, you don't have to worry; turn to Him and ask Him to open your eyes to see the solution He has already provided. I pray that you will emerge victorious over all obstacles, in Jesus' name.

_*PRAYER POINT*_
Father, please open my eyes to see the solutions You have provided to every challenge that comes my way, in Jesus' name.

_*HYMN 27 - WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS*_
1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear;
what a privilege to carry
Ev'rything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear-
All because we do not carry
Ev'rything to God in prayer.

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He'll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
