*SATURDAY, 7 FEBRUARY*
*TEXT: MATTHEW 23:1–12*
*TOPIC: SEEK TO LEAD OTHERS TO JESUS CHRIST*

*MATTHEW 23:1-12 NIV*

1:Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:

2:“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.

3:So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.

4:They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

5:“Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long;

6:they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;

7:they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.

8:“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.

9:And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.

10:Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.

11:The greatest among you will be your servant.

12:For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

*SEEK TO LEAD OTHERS TO JESUS CHRIST*

God expects us to be mindful of how we live. He addressed the crowds and His disciples, warning them about the hypocrisy of the scribes and Pharisees.

While they teach the law from Moses’ seat, they fail to practice what they preach. They burden others with rules but refuse to lift those burdens themselves.

Their religious acts are performed for show—seeking honour and recognition rather than glorifying God.

Jesus condemns this prideful spirit and calls His followers to a different path: humble, servant-hearted leadership. “The greatest among you will be your servant” (v.11).

True greatness in God’s kingdom is not found in titles or applause, but in humility and integrity.

OVERFLOWING ANOINTING – OCCUPYING, ADVANCING, AND REVERSING DECLINE

(A Bold Church Rising to Influence Nations)

The anointing is not given for isolation but for occupation. Jesus commands His church to occupy—not retreat. Decline in society often mirrors decline in the church’s boldness. When saints withdraw from influence, darkness fills the vacuum.

The anointing emboldens believers to stand in hostile spaces—culture, governance, education, workplaces, and nations. It produces courage without hatred, conviction without compromise, and engagement without fear. A passive church knows truth but refuses responsibility. An anointed church lives truth and acts on it.

In this dispensation, silence is not humility; it is disobedience. The anointing empowers saints to reverse decline, reclaim ground, and shine as light in dark places.
Today, we pray for bold occupation, active obedience, and kingdom advancement.

We declare that we are an anointed, bold, and advancing people. We occupy our territories, influence our generation, and glorify Christ openly. The church arises, darkness retreats, and Jesus is exalted, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Hello, my brothers and sisters in Christ.

February is here, bringing with it a new chapter filled with fresh opportunities, renewed strength, and endless hope. Prophet Isaiah was asked to tell the people of Israel that the Lord has a plan for them, and the Lord says,“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth” (Isaiah 43:19). As we begin this month together, I want to sincerely thank you all for your hard work, resilience, and passion toward our common purpose.

Let us start this month with open and prayerful hearts. May God guide our steps, grant us wisdom in our decisions, and give us the strength to face any challenges that come our way. The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5–6). May our work bring us peace, growth, and fulfillment, and may our hearts remain united in love (Psalm 133:1).

February is a wonderful reminder of the importance of consistency. Paul urged the believers that, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9). When we commit to small daily efforts with dedication and faith, great transformation is possible. Stay focused on your goals, remain encouraged, and remember that every effort you make truly matters. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).

This month, I pray for your good health, clarity of mind, joy in your work, and success in all that you do. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 1:2). May you receive good news, see your prayers answered, and find many reasons to rejoice (Philippians 4:6–7).

Let us move forward with hope, faith, and gratitude. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for” (Hebrews 11:1). I wish everyone a beautiful and blessed start to the new month.

PASTORS’ APPRECIATION SUNDAY

Beloved in Christ,

Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I trust that you are doing well in His vineyard.

Once again, we have come to that special season—Pastors’ Appreciation Sunday—a day set aside by ECWA International to honor the tireless labor, passion, zeal, and commitment of our pastors, the soldiers of Christ who have dedicated their lives to the service of God and humanity in our various Local Churches.

This day calls to mind the unflinching sacrifices made by our pastors through their prayers, counseling, preaching and teaching, and their presence at important milestones of our lives—weddings, naming ceremonies, burials, and in the general care for the flock entrusted to them. These sacrifices cannot be measured in monetary terms; they reflect the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, who during His earthly ministry prioritized the salvation and wellbeing of mankind above all else.

I therefore urge all bona-fide ECWA members of Gongola DCC, across all LCCs and LCs, to use this opportunity to appreciate your pastors—both in cash and in kind—as a way of encouraging them in the kingdom assignment. In doing so, we align with the biblical principle recorded in Galatians 6:6, which reminds us to share all good things with those who teach us.

Finally, I encourage us all to observe Pastors’ Appreciation Sunday with the honor, love, and enthusiasm it deserves—for in appreciating our pastors, we strengthen the Church, and together we advance the work of God’s kingdom.

Thank you, and may the Lord bless you richly.

Yours in His Grace,

Welcome to September

From the Chairman’s Desk
ECWA Gongola DCC

Beloved in Christ,

I joyfully welcome you into September, the ninth month of 2025. Biblically, the number nine signifies divine completeness, spiritual maturity, and the fulfillment of God’s promises (Galatians 5:22–23; 1 Corinthians 12:8–10). It also reminds us of the ninth hour of Christ’s sacrifice and the call to prayer (Acts 3:1).

This month, my prayer is that:

God will guide you with wisdom and discernment.

You will be rooted in faith, hope, and love.

His hand will protect you and His Spirit will lead you.

Let me also remind us that 1st–7th September is ECWA Pastors’ Appreciation Week. I encourage all members of Gongola DCC to joyfully honor and appreciate their pastors for their labor of love, to the glory of God.

May this month be a season of blessing for you and your family. Congratulations, and welcome to September!

Yours In Christ,
Rev. Maxwell Iliya Kuri, PhD

*TEXT: JOHN 6:1-15*
*TOPIC: HOW DO YOU SEE PEOPLE?*

[1] Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias),

[2] and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick.

[3] Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples.

[4] The Jewish Passover Festival was near.

[5] When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”

[6] He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.

[7] Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”

[8] Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up,

[9] “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

[10] Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there).

[11] Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

[12] When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.”

[13] So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

[14] After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

[15] Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

*HOW DO YOU SEE PEOPLE?*

John reports the fifth miracle of Jesus within the vicinity of Galilee. The miracles attracted large crowds whenever He went. John described the size of the crowd in superlative terms: "A great crowd of people followe

*TEXT: PSALM 1:1-6*
*TOPIC: THE BLESSED AND THE WICKED*

*BIBLE READING: PSALM 1:1-6 NIV*
1:Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2:but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3:That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. 4:Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5:Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6:For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

*THOUGHT REFLECTION: THE BLESSED AND THE WICKED*
The Psalm contrasts the outcomes of the righteous and the wicked.

The blessed person avoids wicked influences and delights in God's word, thriving like a tree planted by streams of water.

The wicked are unstable and face destruction.

Our associations and attitudes affect our spiritual well-being.

*QUESTION: Who are your close friends and how do they influence you?

*PRAYER: May I not be tempted to associate with wicked individuals but find delight in God's word, in Jesus' name. Amen.
