Good evening everyone...

I'm delighted to inform us that come tomorrow, *Sunday 17th July*, our esteemed *District Administrator*, Pastor Ebide Jeremiah would come visiting us in church.

To this end we're all encouraged to try and be very early to church, so that we can give him the warm and rousing reception he deserves.

Let's do well to inform as many persons as we can.

It was an early Sunday morning, 11th May 1969 at the University of Ife, Ibadan campus, but it was no ordinary Sunday morning. It was a day grace was released to the vile sinner, he was cleansed, made new and became a channel through whom God would save many more souls into His kingdom.

As we remember that fateful day, we celebrate God’s grace that still saves to the uttermost.

TOPIC: PAUL’S DEFENSE
1 Corinthians 11:5-15

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified 1Corinthians 2:2

From our text above, we see Paul defending himself. Rhetoric was an art in the ancient world; people were trained in the art of public speaking. Paul’s opponents were classically trained orators and Paul was not, “I may not be a trained speaker, but I know what I am talking about. I think you realize this by now, for we have proved it again and again.” (vs. 6 NLT).

Paul was concerned that the church will be led astray if they don’t heed his counsel. It is important to note that we have more trained or charismatic speakers these days who are destitute of the truth. And what they are saying is tossing people’s faith to and fro. We have so many people teaching and preaching the wisdom of men with great oratory skills in the pulpit. We are to preach Christ and His cross. This is what will build the saints. Paul said, I may not know how to talk like a great orator, but I know what I’m talking about. The antidote for deception is knowledge. The reason we are still been deceived according to John Naisbitt is that “we are drowning in information but starved for knowledge.” There is a deluge of information but a scarcity of knowledge. There is a surfeit of style but a scarcity of substance. Those who have been called to lead God’s people must prioritize the preaching of Christ and His cross. Church folks should be eager to know Christ and Him crucified.

PRAYER: Lord, cause us to listen to and preach “Christ and Him crucified.”
