INEC did not impose any names: Claims are False, Misleading, and Preposterous

The Ogbe Febokirifagha Ogbo (OFO) wishes to respond to a recent press briefing circulating online, in which the Agbarha people falsely claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) imposed Ijaw names in Warri South Local Government Area.

Let us be unequivocal: INEC did not impose any names. The Commission simply complied with the Supreme Court's judgment, which ordered a fresh delineation resulting in the allocation of three wards to the Ogbe-Ijoh people, based on our geographical spread and population size.

It is instructive to note that before this development, the Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom already had several electoral wards in Warri South area: Alder’s Town Ward B3, Ogbe-Ijoh Ward C1, Ogbe-Ijoh Ward C2, and Ward F1 (GRA). But subsequently, these wards were systematically reduced into units through a deliberate political strategy by the Jokris to annihilate other tribes in Warri.

Rather than making noise to correct the anomaly, the Ijaws of Warri pursued legal redress for over ten years, and the Supreme Court finally ordered INEC to conduct a new delineation.

It is therefore appalling for anyone to suggest that this lawful process constitutes an imposition. Even more appalling and disturbing is the attempt by the Agbarha people to raise unwarranted objections by distorting history and claiming that the Ogbe-Ijoh people do not have lands in Warri.

For the record, the Ogbe-Ijoh people have been indigenous to Warri long before the arrival of the Agbarha people in the nineteenth century. Both colonial leases and legal gazettes confirm that the Ogbe-Ijoh presence spans from Bowen Avenue to the Catholic Church area on Warri Sapele Road, extending to Okere Prison, McIver Road, and down to the Old Port areas.

OFO therefore wonders why the people of Agbassa have chosen this route. The truth is that this approach is not unfamiliar to the Ogbe-Ijoh people. It is part of a longstanding pattern by the Itsekiri to distort facts and generate noise rather than address substantive issues.

But, this is the twenty-first century, an era in which facts carry greater weight than misinformation, and where inflammatory claims are countered with verifiable records and traceable documentation. For instance, how can a particular Kingdom allege that the Ijaws (Ogbe-Ijoh people) do not possess land in Warri?

Yet, on May 23, 1997, the same Kingdom jointly signed a memorandum with the Okere Urhobos before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, requesting the Delta State Government to incorporate the Ijaw language into all schools across the Warri Metropolis.

How paradoxical!

The Ogbe Febokirifagha Ogbo wishes to affirm that the era of falsehoods, fabricated claims, and manipulated court judgments used to dominate other tribes in Warri has come to an end. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has only restored wards that were systematically removed in the past to serve political interests, and they deserve commendation for this.

Therefore, we are calling on the National Security Adviser (NSA) and other relevant authorities to identify those attempting to incite unrest in Warri. We are also urging the public to dismiss these inflammatory claims, which are intended to undermine the fragile peace that the city currently enjoys.

Signed:
Ogbe Febokirifagha-Ogbo

President Bola Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Show Mercy And Compassion Irrespective Of Religion Or Ethnicity

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to "show mercy and compassion to one another regardless of race, ethnicity, or creed." This is part of the President's Eid-el-Kabir message where he personally extended his warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and around the world as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir,
the Festival of Sacrifice.

The President gave glory to Almighty Allah for preserving the lives of Nigerians to witness another Eid-el-Kabir celebration, describing the occasion as a reminder of the enduring virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice, selflessness, unity, and compassion as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.

President Tinubu noted that one of the central lessons of Eid-el-Kabir is the need to show mercy and compassion to one another regardless of race, ethnicity, or creed, stressing that Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, remains the greatest symbol of duty and devotion to Allah.

The President stated that Nigeria is currently on a journey of reconstruction and renewal, noting that the reforms introduced by his administration, though challenging, are necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous nation for future generations.

President Tinubu expressed delight that the sacrifices and efforts made over the past three years have started yielding positive results, including a more stable economy and improved investor confidence capable of driving job creation and economic growth.
According to the President, “the walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here,” expressing confidence that, by the Grace of God, the reforms being implemented will continue to improve security and create greater opportunities for Nigerians.
While acknowledging the efforts of the nation’s security and intelligence agencies, including the recent elimination of a wanted ISIS leader,

President Tinubu noted that terrorists and bandits still carry out attacks in some communities. He, however, assured Nigerians that they have neither been abandoned nor forgotten, pledging that all forces of evil would ultimately be defeated.

President Tinubu urged Muslim faithful to use the sacred occasion to pray for Nigeria, for peace in communities, and for wisdom for leaders at all levels.

He also called on Nigerians to pray for those involved in criminal activities to repent and abandon their evil ways or face the full weight of the law.

The President further encouraged citizens to extend love and support to the less privileged, share with neighbours, and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity across the country.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful Nigeria where citizens can live freely, worship without fear, and pursue their aspirations in a secure environment.

He assured Nigerians that his government would continue to invest in security, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development in order to fulfil the great promise of the nation.

"On behalf of the Federal Government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wished all Nigerians a peaceful, joyous, and blessed Eid-el-Kabir celebration, praying that Allah accepts the sacrifices and prayers of the faithful and continues to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Eid Mubarak and Happy Sallah." It concludes.
