SERMON : LIVING WITH CHRIST : A CALL TO A HIGHER LIFE
Memory Text : Colossians 3:1-17.
Friends, in a world constantly pulling us in a thousand directions, how do we find true north? The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, gives us a profound answer:
LIVE WITH CHRIST.
Colossians 3:1-17 isn't just a suggestion; it's a powerful invitation to a transformed life. Paul tells us, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:1-2).
This isn't about escaping reality, but about reorienting our perspective. Because our lives are "hidden with Christ in God," we have access to a divine perspective that changes everything. What does this look like practically? It means a daily "wardrobe change." We are called to shed the old garments of anger, malice, slander, and greed (Colossians 3:8-9). These are the earthly things that weigh us down and separate us from God and each other. Instead, we are to "clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience" (Colossians 3:12).
Imagine a community where these virtues are the norm! This is the new self, continually being renewed in the image of its Creator. But the ultimate garment, the one that binds all these virtues together in perfect unity, is love (Colossians 3:14). It's the glue that holds our relationships together, enabling us to forgive each other just as the Lord has forgiven us. And when love is at the center, the peace of Christ will rule in our hearts, guiding our decisions and calming our anxieties.
Finally, Paul encourages us to let the "word of Christ dwell in you richly" (Colossians 3:16). This isn't just passive reading; it's active engagement—teaching, admonishing, singing, and giving thanks. Every word, every deed, every moment of our lives becomes an opportunity to honor God.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (Colossians 3:17).Living with Christ means living intentionally, with our hearts and minds fixed on Him. It means embracing a new identity, marked by love, peace, and gratitude.
Let's strive today to live out this incredible calling, reflecting His light in every aspect of our lives. Amen 🙏
