Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election after securing 345,375 affirmation votes in the party’s direct primary election held across the state.
Governor Oborevwori, who was the sole aspirant, was affirmed by party members across Delta State’s wards in a peaceful exercise that APC leaders described as transparent and exemplary.
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Engr. Victor Abba, announced the result at the party secretariat in Asaba, the collation centre for the exercise.
According to him, Oborevwori, having satisfied the constitutional requirements of the party and secured the highest number of valid votes cast, was duly returned as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Delta State.
“I, Engineer Sir Victor Abba, Chairman of the Delta Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer for the Delta State Governorship Primary Election held on May 21, 2026, hereby certify that the aspirant, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, scored 345,375 votes,” he declared.
Abba commended party members for their maturity, unity, and peaceful conduct during the exercise, noting that the political atmosphere in Delta reflected a high level of internal democracy.
Speaking after casting his vote in Oha, Okpe Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori praised the APC leadership for what he described as a transparent and peaceful primary election.
He said the exercise, conducted across the state’s 270 wards, reflected strong grassroots participation and confidence in the party’s leadership.
Oborevwori noted that the peaceful conduct of the primary marked a significant shift from previous political experiences in the state.
Former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa described the turnout as a clear demonstration of support for Oborevwori’s administration, while Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the Governor’s emergence reflected the confidence party members had in his leadership.
Other APC leaders, including Dr. Hilary Ibegbulem, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Hon. Francis Waive, and Chief Solomon Areyenka, also expressed confidence in the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was witnessed by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and other party stakeholders.
The outcome further strengthens Oborevwori’s position within the APC in Delta State as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
