Topic: *HOW DO YOU REACT TO REBUKE?*
*Scriptures: Genesis 4:1*
_" And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord" (KJV)_
*Hebrews 12:5*
_And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto Children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him_
Genesis 4:1 goes a long way to teach us how to react when we are rebuked by God or by others genuinely. In Chapter 3 of Genesis, we see God rebuking Adam and Eve, cursed the ground for Adam's sake, punished Eve with Labour pains and desire for her husband, and sent them out of the Garden of Eden; yet in Genesis 4:1 when they gave birth to their first child, the name they gave him is very instructive. They called him CAIN, meaning "God has given me a man", or " gotten a man from God." It shows they were not angry with God. From an emotional point of view, God should be the least person or being that will come to their minds, but they knew he wanted the best for them, and in honour to God, they returned the thanks to him regardless of the fact that they have been rebuked by him.
Hebrews 12:5 tells us that we should not faint when God rebukes us, and verse 8 tells us that if we are not rebuked, then we are bastards and not sons. How do you react when you are rebuked? Do you see the big picture? or you scatter the picture by your reaction. Only those who love you will correct you from their hearts and with love. God's instructions, and good instructions are not to punish you but to Polish you. It may look like punishment initially, but if you are patient and handle it with maturity, you will be thankful at the end, and say like Adam and Eve, "God has give me" or "I have gotten". When you are rebuked for the right reasons by your parents, spouse, Pastor, colleagues, superiors, and others who love you and want the best for you, handle it with maturity. Hebrews 12:11 says, " Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness, to them which are exercised thereby. With the right attitude you can receive a "Cain" from the "Kain". Can you see the big picture?
