These pictures depict the divine encounter of the founder of the Celestial Church of Christ, Samuel Bilewu Oshoffa, popularly known as Baba Oshoffa, with God in the forest.
Baba Oshoffa was originally a carpenter, but when carpentry alone was no longer enough to sustain him, he added ebony wood trading to his business. Some people jokingly say his legs were too big, which was why he later instructed members not to wear shoes — but that is only a joke. Baba Oshoffa was like every normal human being, dressed properly during his business trips, yet one thing remained constant: he never went anywhere without his Bible.
He usually traveled by boat with his canoe paddler for his ebony wood business, and even while on the river, he never joked with reading the Scriptures. Upon arriving at the forest, he met with his workers and wood buyers as usual.
At one point, the canoe paddler ate Baba Oshoffa’s soup without his permission, and shortly after, he developed a severe stomach ache. Baba Oshoffa prayed for him, and the pain vanished immediately. Truly, it is never good to take what does not belong to you. There is no crime in asking for consent or permission.
Moving forward, while Baba Oshoffa was in the forest, he heard the divine calling of God through a mysterious voice crying out:
“LULI! LULI!! LULI!!!”
Which means “Grace.”
Grace for the journey ahead.
Grace to fulfill destiny.
Grace to succeed in life.
Though he had labored for years as an ordinary man, God had now chosen and appointed him to become His messenger unto the world…
