There's a powerful story about a woman who was punished because she obeyed.
We never knew about her until the day her mistress said to her, "I want my husband to have a seed through you."
I'm sure her mind went like, "woahhhhh.... Ma'am, you say?" But her head bent the way servants did and she said, "Yes ma'am."
Nine months later, she had a baby with this man and the very mistress who asked for that baby started maltreating her.
Imagine she was sweeping and told the mistress to carry up her feet.
(You know the story, nauu)
"Because I'm barren. That's why you're rubbing it in my face with the scent of baby powder." 😂
(That's beside the point though)
However, one fine day, she was tired - tired of the shame, respite, anger, hatred and everything her mistress put her through.
So, she rann.
And it was on that day she ran that she found God. Story tells us that the angel of the Lord appeared to her and spoke things concerning her child, but more importantly that she should go back home.
Our beautiful maid - whose name is Hagar - cried out in that instance:
"Have I also seen the one who sees me?"
You may be going through a lot and sometimes, it's not even because you did something wrong, but because someone hates your guts for what you're able to do and they can't.
Dear friend, I hope you never forget that God is intentional about you and he sees you. I also hope that in this moment, you'll be able to say, "Have I also seen the one who sees me?"
Just like Hagar, I hope that you will look back on that situation and say, "El-roi: The God who sees me."
