Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles closed out the Saturday afternoon session of the 195th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, talking about the recent surge in converts to the Church.

“In the last 36 months, nearly 900,000 converts have joined the Church. These converts constitute approximately 5% of the total Church membership,” he shared. “In the first six months of this year, conversions have risen by more than 20% over the previous year in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America. In North America, we have seen a 17% increase.”

He added that these numbers are signs that the gospel of Jesus Christ is touching hearts and changing lives.

Brothers and sisters, I feel truly humbled to be celebrating my 101st birthday with my children so close—whether in person or forever in my heart.

Even though those pictured are all adults with children, grandchildren, and even a great grandchild of their own, I still feel the tenderness I felt for them when they were small enough to rock in my arms.

From then to now, I’ve done my best to teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ. The glad tidings I have taught them are the same lessons I have often shared with you.

God is our Father. We are His children. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. This is His Church, which is reflected in the name He gave it. It is only through Jesus Christ’s Atonement that we can repent of our sins and return to God’s presence.

We will find joy in life as we “think celestial” and follow the covenant path that begins with baptism and leads us to The House of The Lord. God speaks to us when we make the effort to hear Him. The world needs peacemakers, so please be kind. Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for expressing gratitude.

Thank you for your prayers. You inspire me to strive to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.

Attack on Missionaries in Kimbwala (Kimbwala Stake Kinshasa East Mission)

Dear All,

We write to you today with deep concern following a tragic attack that occurred last night at the missionaries' apartment, located diagonally across from the stake center, at Brother Paulin’s residence. This incident took place around 1:00 a.m. and has had serious consequences.

According to the testimonies of their fellow missionaries, two missionaries were targeted by assailants. One of them sustained serious injuries from a knife attack and urgently requires medical care. His condition is critical, and we kindly ask you to unite in prayer for his swift recovery.

The second missionary was abducted by the assailants during the attack. As of now, his whereabouts remain unknown, and we are all deeply concerned for his safety. Brothers Yan and Philippe (Ebende) immediately alerted the Kimbwala police, who have launched an active search to locate the kidnapped missionary.

We appeal to everyone to remain vigilant. If you have any information, even the smallest detail, that could assist the authorities in their investigation, we urge you to share it without delay. Every piece of information may be crucial in finding our missing brother.

In these moments of uncertainty and distress, it is essential that we come together as a community. We encourage you to pray for the survival and recovery of the injured missionary, as well as for the safety of the one who was abducted. The power of our united prayers can have a profound impact.
