::: From Hiding in the Shadows to Leading in His Presence ✨ | Story of My Life 😀 - Godwin Akpan
For the longest time, fear and shyness held me back. But it’s beautiful how God doesn’t leave us where we are, He gently emboldens us to serve Him, even when we feel completely unready.
Looking back, I have to laugh at my younger self. As a child, my friends convinced me to join our singing group, “The Memories” (shoutout to the amazing Mfon Etukakpan, Obot John, Idorenyin Essien, and David Eleleme 🙌). They believed in my voice and wanted me to take the lead on one of my absolute favorite songs, “Lead Me To Rest by Acappella Company.” I loved the music, so I’d show up faithfully for every single behind-the-scenes rehearsal. But the moment it was time for a public performance? I became a master of excuses and would literally run away! 😂 (FunFact - Music and songwriting were my first hustle )
Indeed “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.”
Fast forward to today, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude. God took that shy, hiding child and brought me into a space of bold, deep worship. There is truly no experience like being wrapped in His presence, lost in praise.

Stepping out on my second outing (I think they didn’t capture the first one I did in my dialect, Ibibio) to lead these songs wasn’t just a performance for me, it was a victory lap over fear, and a declaration of how faithful God has been in rewriting my story. Thank you, Jesus, for giving me the courage to sing for You. ❤️🙌
