Isaiah 43:16-18
16 Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea. And a path through the mighty waters,
17 Who brings forth the chariot and horse,
The army and the power
(They shall lie down together, they shall not rise; They are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick):
18 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Quote
You can't lay hold of the new, while holding on to the old.
Insight
This text introduced God as God Almighty who does far more than can imagine. Israel have known God as One who makes a way in the sea. They have known Him as one who creates a path through the mighty waters. Who brings forth the chariot and horse, even
the army and the power down. However, God wanted them to know Him beyond His past exploits. He desired that they know Him in the now, and experientially too. So, the best way to understand God's present capabilities is to look beyond the past. Many of us once had a convincing encounter with God, but today it is as if that same God is no longer active in us. The truth is that, hanging on to a particular experience without the desire for fresh exploit, makes one soon lose passion even in that level of experience. Hanging in the past, pin us down from exploring the new/future. God told the Israelites to let go of what they know about the past experience of His power because something better, brighter and bigger is about to happen. Do you wish to have a better experience of your relationship with God, your spouse, your life, or your career, then you must let the past, pass and pursue a fresh course of life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, grant us the enabling grace to always pursue a fresh course of life, and never be tied down by our past experiences of failure or succes
