*THE RAIN TODAY*

*AS SOON AS ZION TRAVAILED*

*MEDITATION: ISAIAH 66:8*
Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

*SHOWERS:*
Travail is holy labour. It is prayer and the Word pressed together until something is born. Isaiah saw it and said it plain: "As soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth." Your breakthrough is tied to your burden.

Zion is you. God is calling us back to the place where faith guards our heart and hope guards our mind. We do not faint, we do not abort. We put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of the hope of salvation.

Appointment drives conduct. God did not appoint us to quit. He appointed us to obtain and to bring forth. So we labour in prayer and in the Word. And as soon as Zion travailed... she brought forth.

*THE REVELATION*
Travail is the womb of breakthrough. What you birth in prayer and the Word, you will nurse in testimony.

*CONFESSION:*
I am Zion! I refuse to faint in the place of travail. As I labour in prayer and in the Word, I bring forth God’s purpose for my life. My breakthrough is here, in Jesus' name! Amen.

*THE RAIN TODAY*

*SONS OF LIGHT*

*MEDITATION: 1 THESS. 5:5-8*
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

*SHOWERS:*
Our text identifies all believers in Christ as sons of light. That means we belong to the Light as offspring. Light connotes truth, holiness, and God’s revelation. All of these describe Christ Himself who said in John 8:12, _"I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."_ So our nature, identity, and substance are truth, holiness, righteousness, and God’s revelation.

As sons of light, we are of the day. Light belongs to the day. The day connotes responsibility, victory, watchfulness, alertness, and transparency. It is the opposite of the night, where the sons of darkness sleep. Sons of darkness are unbelievers who are blinded by the god of this world into a life of rebellion, blasphemy, immorality, and all forms of corruption. They are driven by ignorance into choosing death instead of life.

Are you a son of light, or a son of darkness? Are you alive in Christ, the Light of the world, or dead in your trespasses? God desires to translate you from the power of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son, Colossians 1:13. _"Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light."_ Ephesians 5:14.

*THE REVELATION:*
To be of the day, one must choose Christ, the Light. Those who belong to the night have settled for rebellion.

*CONFESSION:*
I am a son of light, I belong to the day! I reject falsehood, immorality, rebellion, and all the works of darkness! I am not of the night! I reflect Christ! Hallelujah!

THE RAIN TODAY

NOT APPOINTED TO WRATH

MEDITATION: 1 THESS. 5:5-10
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

SHOWERS:
Appointment should drive conduct. Someone once said, "He who is called 'His Excellency' ought to live an excellent lifestyle." This is logical, and any reasonable person will agree.

Today's text declares that we are appointed to obtain salvation through Christ Jesus. We were not appointed to wrath. Our appointment brought us into union with Christ, and it holds true whether we are alive or have died. We are therefore admonished to live out our appointment by putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of the hope of salvation.

Putting on the breastplate of faith and love means we make righteousness our heart posture. Faith accounts for Christ's righteousness that God imputes to us, while love accounts for the righteousness He manifests through us. When the heart puts them on, it becomes one with Christ in nature.

Similarly, to put on the helmet of the hope of salvation is to clothe our minds with the awareness of eternal life and heavenly realities. This is setting our minds on things above as commanded in Colossians 3:1-4. To be carnally minded is death, according to Romans 8:6. So to be controlled by the hope of salvation is to be united with Christ in His life and values, Hebrews 12:2.

THE REVELATION
Righteousness and hope authenticate our appointment to salvation.

*THE RAIN TODAY*

*THE SALVATION MINDSET*

*MEDITATION: 1 Thess. 5:5-10*
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

*SHOWERS:*
Perception and mindset are two mind powers that can keep a man either free or bound eternally. They also separate people who belong to different worlds. Today's text identifies two worlds: the world of darkness and the world of light. Those who are of the night choose the world of darkness, while those who are of the day are powered by the light.

We are blessed with the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet of salvation. These cover the heart and the head, the seats of perception and mindset. So for us who are of the day, faith, love, and salvation form the foundation of our perception and mindset. We do not see, reason, or understand things like the people of the night whose minds are darkened by ignorance of the ways of God. We think like Christ. Stop reasoning and acting like the people of the world. Think right!

*THE REVELATION:*
Perception and mindset are fueled by what controls the mind: either God by His Word, or Satan by his lies.

*CONFESSION:*
I have the mind of Christ! I think like Him, and know as He knows! My mind is no more darkened by the god of this world — the prince of darkness! I am enlightened! Hallelujah!

*THE RAIN TODAY*

_*UNDERSTANDING GOD'S MERCY (3)*_

*MEDITATION: 1 Peter 1:13-16*
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

*SHOWERS:*
God’s mercy made us children. But when we slip back into our former lusts, we leave the place where we belong.

A fish that leaves the water where it belongs to crawl on dry ground begins to die there. So, just like a fish must avoid dry ground at all costs, today's text commands believers: _“do not conform to your former lusts.”_
When we go back to those lusts, we lose peace, joy and power. We end up like the prodigal in the pig pen — still a son, but perishing, Luke 15:11-32. The Father’s house and the inheritance were still reserved. But until he returned, he could not access them.

That’s why God’s mercy keeps the way back open. That’s why God’s mercy is calling you home today.
Therefore, as God’s son, do not harden your heart. Do not shipwreck your faith. Arise and return, if you do not want to forfeit your eternal inheritance.

*THE REVELATION:*
Mercy saves us, keeps us, and calls us back before we forfeit what was reserved for us.

*CONFESSION:*
By God’s mercy I am holy. I arise and return to the Father. I refuse to die on dry ground. My inheritance is secure in Christ Jesus. Amen.

THE RAIN TODAY

UNDERSTANDING THE MERCY OF GOD (2)

MEDITATION: Hebrews 4:16; Romans 2:4; Ezekiel 18:23
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
4 Or do you presume on the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

SHOWERS:
Having established that the mercy of God cannot be earned, we must also understand that it must be received.

The mercy of God is extended to all men. It is as available as air and as constant as rain. However, while it is offered to everyone, it is received by faith. One draws near to God and finds help; another delays and hardens the heart.

God shows no partiality; He is longsuffering. Yet, mercy that is continually rejected may eventually be outlasted. Yes, we can harden our hearts until the day of mercy ends. The critical question, therefore, is not why one receives and another does not. The critical question is: Have I received the mercy of God today?

THE REVELATION:
Mercy cannot be earned, but it can be refused. Faith is the hand that receives what grace has provided.

PRAY:
Lord, I will not presume upon Your mercy, neither will I harden my heart. Today, I draw near to the throne of grace with confidence. I receive Your mercy afresh for my life. Mercy speaks for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

*THE RAIN TODAY*

*UNDERSTANDING THE MERCY OF GOD (1)*

*Meditation: Lamentations 3:22-23, Ephesians 2:4-5*
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved.

*Showers:*
The mercy of God is a vital element that no man can merit, deserve, or earn. It is not a reward for performance. It is the deliberate kindness of God toward humanity in spite of our shortcomings, and it is the reason we are alive today.

This mercy is an inalienable act of God. It is permanent and unchanging. It forms the foundation of all of God’s dealings with mankind, both the saved and the unsaved. To the unsaved, it is the open door of opportunity and the patience that leads to repentance. To the saved, it is the sustaining hand that restores and upholds.

If God were to deal with us according to merit, none would stand. However, He deals with us according to mercy. Therefore, every morning we arise to fresh opportunities, renewed grace, and unending hope.

*The Revelation:*
The mercy of God is greater than any human failure.

*Confession:*
I am a product of God’s mercy. I did not earn it, neither do I deserve it, yet I receive it by faith. His mercies are new for me this morning. I walk free from condemnation, for mercy speaks on my behalf! Hallelujah!

*Failed and Retired*

*Meditation: Luke 5:1-6*
_1 So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,
2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets.
3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."
5 But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."
6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking._

*Showers:*
One of the greatest limitations for humans is past failure. In today’s text we see Peter had toiled all night but failed to catch anything. He had retired for the day and was washing his nets. This is the common experience of many who have failed several times in one thing or another and have lost hope.

The key to overcoming this limitation is the supernatural intervention of God’s Word. The Lord gave His Word — described in John 6:63 as Spirit and life — to Peter. That Word gave direction and brought the result he longed for.
When the Word came, he overcame the temptation to stay in his failure and obeyed the Word of Christ. That singular obedience laid to rest the season of failure and retirement in his life.
Waiting on God, hearing, and obeying Him throws the record of past failures into oblivion.

*The Revelation:*
Divine direction and obedience lay to rest the season of all past failures in a person’s life.

*Confession:*
Lord, help me to hear You and obey You. I break into a fresh beginning with an amazing turnaround and breakthrough in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Rain Today

Dismantling the Limitations of Unprivileged Inexperience

Text: Luke 1:30-35

Meditation: Luke 1:34-35
34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"
35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God."

Showers:
Today's text pictures the massive divine purpose of bringing the Saviour into the world that Mary was entrusted with. But she had a problem. She was a virgin and had no experience of being with a man. She was not yet qualified for that. That is what I refer to as _"unprivileged inexperience."_ That means one is not opportune to have such experience. So she wondered how such a massive divine purpose would be possible with such a limitation.

John 7:14-16 gives an account of how the Jews were offended and amazed at the same time at Jesus who taught authoritatively and accurately. Their problem was that He had not had any formal education like them. So to them, that excluded Him from teaching and other public ministries.

But in both cases, the supernatural gate gave the needed abilities and empowerment for the divine purposes. Favour beautified Mary. The Holy Spirit — the power from on high, overshadowed her and she did what was impossible with relative ease. The Lord, in the same vein, told His critics that His doctrinal prowess was supernatural. I see the supernatural gate put you among eternal achievers before the end of this series, in Jesus' name! Amen.

The Revelation:
The Spirit from on high empowers us for supernatural exploits when heaven's spotlight beams on us.

Confession:
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to take territories and do exploits! I am endowed by the supernatural! Glory!
