TEXT: PSALM 124:1-8
DANIEL 3:28-31
TOPIC: PRAISE BE TO THE LORD WHO HAS NOT LEFT US ASTRAY
N/B:Psalm 124 is a song of thanksgiving written by David. In this passage, David acknowledged that it was only by the help and mercy of God that Israel survived their enemies. The psalm teaches us to depend on God, appreciate His protection, and give Him praise for delivering us from danger and destruction.
REASONS WE SHOULD PRAISE GOD
1. God Is Our Defender
David began by saying:
โIf it had not been the Lord who was on our sideโฆโ (Psalm 124:1)
This means that without God, the people would have been destroyed by their enemies. In life, many battles come against us โ troubles, temptations, sickness, failure, and evil people โ but God stands by His children and fights for them.
As believers, we must understand that our victory does not come by our own strength, wisdom, or power, but by the help of God.
2. God Saves Us From Destruction
The psalm compares the enemies to floods and wild beasts ready to swallow the people alive. Yet God did not allow them to succeed.
Many times, the enemy may plan evil against us, but God rescues us. Some dangers are seen, while others are unseen. God protects us daily from accidents, spiritual attacks, and evil traps.
That is why we must always thank God for His mercy and preservation.
3. God Breaks Every Trap of the Enemy
Psalm 124:7 says:
โOur soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlersโฆโ
A snare is a trap set secretly. The enemy may set traps through sin, bad friends, fear, discouragement, or temptation, but God is able to break every chain and deliver His people.
When God delivers a person, no power can hold them captive again.
4. Our Help Comes From the Lord
The psalm ends with this powerful statement:
โOur help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.โ (Psalm 124:8)
This reminds us that our help comes from God alone. Human beings may fail, but God never fails. The One who created heaven and earth is mighty enough to help us in every situation.
LESSONS FROM THE PASSAGE
Always acknowledge God in every victory.
Never depend only on human strength.
Be thankful for Godโs protection.
Trust God to deliver you from every evil trap.
Praise God because He never abandons His children.
CONCLUSION
โBlessed be the Lord who has not left us astrayโ means giving glory to God for guiding, protecting, and delivering us from destruction. If not for Godโs mercy, many of us would have fallen into the traps of the enemy. Therefore, we must continually praise Him, trust Him, and remain faithful to Him.
May the Lord continue to guide and protect us in Jesus name. AMEN ๐.
