MDL Reflections
SUNDAY, JANUARY 05
Mat 4:17, Act 3:19 Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
"REPENTANCE - Unlimited Access into God's Presence":
"If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2Chro 7:14)
Repentance is the act of turning away from sin and turning towards God, acknowledging our wrongdoing, and seeking forgiveness and restoration. It's a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, enabling us to access God's presence, receive forgiveness, and experience transformation. (1John 1:9, Acts 3:19).
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." (1John 1:8-10)
CHARACTERS:
David, the king of Israel, when he sinned with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed, David initially tried to cover up his sin. However, when confronted by the prophet Nathan, David repented, acknowledging his wrongdoing and seeking God's forgiveness (2Sam 12:1-15, Psalm 51). David's repentance restored his relationship with God, and he continued to serve as king.
Zacchaeus, a tax collector, when Jesus came to Jericho, Zacchaeus climbed a tree to see Him. Jesus noticed Zacchaeus and invited Himself to Zacchaeus' home. Zacchaeus, moved by Jesus' kindness, repented of his sinful ways, promising to give half of his possessions to the poor and to repay four times the amount he had cheated from others (Luke 19:1-10). Zacchaeus' repentance led to his salvation and transformation.
REFLECTION LESSONS:
1. Repentance is essential for accessing God's presence: Repentance is the doorway to God's presence, allowing us to approach Him with confidence and receive forgiveness, healing, and restoration. (Heb 10:22, 1John 1:9)
2. Repentance requires humility and honesty: True repentance involves acknowledging our sin, taking responsibility for our actions, and seeking forgiveness. It requires humility, honesty, and a willingness to change. (Prov 28:13, 1John 1:8-9)
3. Repentance leads to transformation and restoration: When we repent, we open ourselves up to God's transformative power. Repentance leads to healing, restoration, renewal, and a deeper relationship with God. (2Cor 5:17, 2Chr 7:14, Psa 51:10-12, James 5:16)
"Repentance attracts more grace & mercy, where God's love and forgiveness transforms our brokenness into new creations."
When we repent, we're not just seeking forgiveness; we're seeking a deeper relationship with God and a transformed new life.
As you turn away from every appealing sin and turn towards God, you will embrace His love, and receive His restoration today. In Jesus name.
APPLICABLE ACTIONS:
1. Acknowledge and confess your sin: Take time to search yourself and reflect on your actions and attitudes. Acknowledge your sin, and confess it to God, seeking His forgiveness and restoration. (1 John 1:9, Psalm 51:3-4, 139:23-24).
2. Seek forgiveness and make amends: When possible, seek forgiveness from those you've wronged, and make amends for your actions. This demonstrates your commitment to repentance and restoration. (Matt 5:23-24, Luke 19:8-9)
3. Walk in obedience and humility: After repenting, commit to walking in obedience to God's Word and humility before Him. This will help you maintain a clean conscience, transformed life and a strong relationship with God. (Rom 5:20-21, 1John 2:3-6, Prov 28:13)
Take home:
- Humble yourself
- Acknowledge your sin
- Seek & Return to God's presence
- Confess & Forsake sin
